So Percussion Performs a Free Concert Aboard MetroRail Today, 11/1

New York City?s cutting edge percussion quartet, S? Percussion, will give a unique performance aboard a Capital Metro Red Line train today, November 1 at 3:44 p.m., beginning at the Downtown Station (401 E. 4th Street). The quartet will be in Austin attending the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). S? Percussion and Capital Metro will present this unconventional concert experience, which is the first event developed by Texas Performing Arts? Classical Music Task Force.

Brooklyn Arts Exchange Announces 2013 BAX Arts & Artists in Progress Award Nominees

The BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange arts and artists in progress awards, now in their twelfth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change they have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others. The awards have been given to some of the most talented, generous, creative and inventive individuals in NYC dance, theater or performance. Nominations for the 2013 awards were sought from over 100 past awardees, presenters and members of the field. Final selections will be announced no later than November 1, 2012.

Brooklyn Museum Presents Masterpieces from Arts of the Americas Collection, Opening January 18

Life, Death and Transformation in the Americas will present one hundred-two masterpieces from the Arts of the Americas permanent collection that exemplify the concept of transformation as part of the religious beliefs and social practices of the region's indigenous peoples. Themes of life, death, fertility, regeneration, and spiritual transformation will be explored through pre-Columbian and historical artworks including twenty-one objects that have not been on public view for decades or have never been exhibited. This long-term installation, which will open on January 18, will be on display in the Museum's recently re-opened galleries on the fifth floor adjacent to American Identities.

Brooklyn Arts Exchange Hosts Space Grant Showcase, 11/30-12/1

BAX - Brooklyn Arts Exchange - has announced the SPACE GRANT SHOWCASE. featuring work by Kimberly Brandt, Morgan Gould, Shaun Irons & Lauren Petty and Nadia Tykulsker and Spark(edIt) Arts. The showcase will run Friday, November 30 & Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 8pm, with a reception to follow Saturday's performance.

Orpheus, Met Soloists to Premiere ‘Earth Echoes’ 10/12

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra returns to Jorgensen this season to perform the first of four in its 40th anniversary commissioned works, Earth Echoes by Pulitzer Prize nominee Augusta Read Thomas, in a Connecticut premiere that will include Metropolitan Opera stars Sasha Cooke and Nathan Gunn. The concert, fresh from its Carnegie Hall debut the night before, will be performed Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m., preceded by a concert talk by UConn music historian Glenn Stanley at 6:45 p.m.

New Commissioned Works by Gabriel Orozco on View at the Guggenheim, Beg. Nov 9

From November 9, 2012 through January 13, 2013, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents Gabriel Orozco: Asterisms, a two-part sculptural and photographic installation by the Mexican-born artist comprising thousands of items of detritus he gathered at two sites-a playing field near his home in New York and a protected coastal biosphere in Baja California Sur, Mexico, which is also the repository for flows of industrial and commercial waste from across the Pacific Ocean.

Sundance Institute Returns to MASS MoCA for Fall Musical and Ensemble Lab, 11/25-12/9

The Sundance Institute Theatre Program today announced that it will return to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) for its Fall Lab, which provides creative support and direction for innovative musical theatre and ensemble-generated projects. Also announced today were the three projects that have been selected to participate.

Alice Ripley to Star in CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS at New York Theatre Workshop, 11/13-12/30

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that tickets are on sale for A Civil War Christmas, written by Paula Vogel and directed by Tina Landau. Performances of this holiday-themed work begin Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 7pm at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4 at 7pm. A Civil War Christmas is scheduled to run through Sunday, December 30.

UNCLE VANYA, 'LIFE AND TIMES' and More Headline Soho Rep's 2012-13 Season

Soho Rep has announced its fall-winter 2012-13 mainstage productions on the heels of its twice-extended, immensely acclaimed world premiere of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, adapted by Annie Baker and directed by Sam Gold. This fall and winter, the 13-time OBIE-winning theater will introduce New York audiences to two more highly anticipated new works, by artists whose careers Soho Rep has nurtured: Jackie Sibblies Drury's We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915, directed by Eric Ting; and Nature Theater of Oklahoma's epic musical serial, Life and Times: Episodes 1-4 a Soho Rep production presented by The Public Theater as a special engagement of the Under the Radar Festival 2013. Soho Rep's 2012/13 season is produced in association with John Adrian Selzer. (The theater will announce its spring production later this fall.)

The Public Theater Presents Soho Rep's Production of Nature Theater Production of OK's 'LIFE AND TIMES', 1/16-2/2

The Public Theater announced today that it will present the Soho Rep production of the American premiere of the Nature Theater of Oklahoma's LIFE AND TIMES: Episodes 1-4 as a special engagement of the 2013 Under the Radar Festival. Conceived and directed by Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper, the epic serial saga LIFE AND TIMES will run January 16 through February 2, 2013. The 2013 Under the Radar Festival will run January 9 through 20, 2013 at The Public Theater at Astor Place, 425 Lafayette Street.
