NNPN Opens THE TOTALITARIANS 2014 Rolling Premiere in New Orleans Tonight

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 39th Rolling World Premiere: Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's The Totalitarians will receive three productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in 2014. The Totalitarians will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Southern Rep (New Orleans, LA, January 29 - February 23, 2014), followed by performances at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company (Washington, DC, June 2 - 29, 2014) and Z Space (San Francisco, CA, November 17 - December 14, 2014).

YALE REPERTORY THEATRE presents the world premiere of THESE PAPER BULLETS!, a modish ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, adapted by Rolin Jones, with songs by Billie Joe Armstrong, and directed by Jackson Gay, March 14-April 5 at the University Theatre (222 York Street). Wooster Group's CRY, TROJANS! (TROILUS & CRESSIDA) Extends Previews thru 2/15

The Wooster Group has extended their previews of CRY, TROJANS! (Troilus and Cressida) through February 15 at the Performing Garage. The production is a re-working of their half of a 2012 collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company, focusing on the Trojan side of the drama as a pastiche American 'Indian' tribe.

Gotham Chamber Opera Announces Fourth Round of Composer in Residence Program

Gotham Chamber Opera, in collaboration with Opera Philadelphia and Music-Theatre Group in New York, is proud to offer a fourth track in the nation's first comprehensive, operatic Composer in Residence program. Funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the program provides professional development opportunities for today's most promising opera composers, selected on a competitive basis. Applications are being accepted through January 31, 2014.

Filled with giant stars and giants of the repertoire that have moved listeners for centuries, the season is pure St. Clair-embracing and celebrating all that great music can mean to the human heart.

Abigal & Shaun Bengson, El Beh & More Set for HUNDRED DAYS at Z Space

Lisa Steindler, Artistic Director of Z Space announces the full cast for the world premiere of Hundred Days, a folk rock odyssey conceived and created by The Bengsons. Produced by Z Space, piece by piece productions and Encore Theatre Company, Hundred Days tells the fierce, triumphant story of a young couple who falls in love, only to have their time together cut short by illness. To fully capture the most of their final 100 days together, the couple decides to live the next three months as though they were six decades as they imagine the life they would share together. Redefining the concert as well as the musical theater experience, this project resonates with the Z Space mission to experiment, re-invent and stretch boundaries. Directed by Obie Award winner, Anne Kauffman, Hundred Days presents a touching journey about love, loss, and life, leaving audiences wondering how they might spend their last hundred days. Hundred Days runs February 20 - April 6, 2014 at Z Space (450 Florida Street, San Francisco). Press night is Saturday, March 1, 2014. OSF Receives $7,000 Grant

The Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) has awarded a $7,000 grant to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's (OSF) Cultural Connections program to support the development of Community Conversations, part of OSF's new engagement model with Latino communities in Portland and the Rogue Valley. Community Conversations is one of 26 arts-based projects in Oregon to receive a 2014 Arts Build Communities grant from the OAC.

Gibney Dance makes space for dance with an expansion to 280 Broadway and invites you to join in. The 280 Broadway space will operate alongside its current 890 Broadway studios as one organization, and is positioned to serve the dance community for the next two decades. Bard Fisher Center Receives Major Funding To Support Fellowships Through Live Arts Bard Program

The second season of Live Arts Bard (LAB), a program of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, provides residencies for six American artists and ensembles making work that spans and transcends the fields of theater, performance, dance, music, film, and live art. Spring 2014 resident artists are Sarah Michelson, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Geoff Sobelle, and Nilaja Sun. John Kelly and Robert Woodruff were LAB resident artists in fall 2013.

BSO's Director of Community Engagement Set for League of American Orchestras' 'Emerging Leaders' Program

Nicholas Cohen, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's director of community engagement, is just one of seven orchestra administrators between the ages of 25 and 35 selected to participate in the League of American Orchestras' newly created, two-year Emerging Leaders Program. The program participants were chosen based on their potential to significantly impact the orchestra field as future leaders.

Washington National Opera Announces New Opera, PENNY, January 2015

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced the commission of a new hour-long opera for the 2014-2015 season of the American Opera Initiative, its comprehensive new commissioning program for contemporary American opera. Penny, by composer Douglas Pew and librettist Dara Weinberg, will have its world premiere in January 2015 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Pew and Weinberg are alumni of the American Opera Initiative; their 20-minute work A Game of Hearts had its world premiere during the program's first season in November 2012.

Pam Tanowitz Dance to Make Joyce Theater Debut, 2/4-6

Pam Tanowitz Dance makes its long awaited Joyce Theater debut from February 4 - 6. Presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation, this engagement will include a program of two new works by Tanowitz, a choreographer known for creating work that juxtaposes ballet with classic modern dance. The pieces, both world premieres, will feature live accompaniment.
