?Honolulu Theatre for Youth has been awarded a $5000 ON the ROAD grant from the Theatre Communications Group's Global Connections program, supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. 

In its tenth anniversary season, THE CROSSING -- the extraordinary chamber choir from Philadelphia, dedicated to new music and conducted by Donald Nally -- has commissioned seven of the world's foremost composers to compose fifteen-minute musical responses to Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri (translated as 'The Limbs of our Jesus'), a monumental seven-part cantata cycle composed in 1680 and known as the first Lutheran oratorio.

It's gotten a little out of hand, which is why she's hired Alex from 'Ready, Set, Go' to help her get organized. But neither the supplies nor the prepping expert can prepare her for the personal disasters that her younger sister brings home, on a day when the city seems set to go up in flames. In Case of Emergency, a brand new site-specific theatrical experience presented by Chalk Repertory Theatre, takes place in a garage at an actual private home in Pasadena from June 24-26 and July 1-3. Written by Chalk Rep founding member Ruth McKee and directed by Deena Selenow, in the LA-based company's signature style.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the recipients of the latest round of Global Connections. Supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Global Connections encourages reciprocity and cultural exchange through two programs: ON the ROAD grants to foster new relationships with international colleagues; and IN the LAB grants to further pre-existing international collaborations. Now in its fifth year, the Global Connections program awarded a total of $70,000 to ten projects in this year's cycle, with over $700,000 awarded to date.

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Workshop will present the annual Community Dance Workshop Concert on Sunday, June 19 at 2pm at the Forum Theatre at 314 Main St, Metuchen, NJ 08840.  This recital is open to the public for a suggested donation of $15.  The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Workshop, established in 2012 in response to popular demand from the community, is part of the critically acclaimed Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, led by world-renowned choreographer Nai-Ni, whose work fuses the dynamic freedom of American modern dance with the elegant splendor of Asian art.  Ms. Chen herself develops the curriculum for the Dance Workshop, which is taught by experienced Chinese traditional dance instructors trained at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy.  Students range from ages seven to seventeen and take weekly classes on Saturdays between 2:30pm and 7:30pm in beginning, intermediate, and advanced traditional Chinese Dance and Modern Dance techniques.  

Playwrights Horizons announced today that acclaimed and beloved stage and television star, Tony Award winner and Emmy Award winner David Hyde Pierce (The Heidi Chronicles and The Maderati at PH; "Frasier," Broadway's Curtains, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Monty Python's Spamalot, next season's Hello, Dolly!) has joined the cast of A LIFE, the world premiere of a new play by Obie Award winner Adam Bock (A Small Fire and The Drunken City at PH, The Receptionist, The Thugs, Swimming in the Shallows).

Orth, whose music is 'whimsical, spiky, sometimes show-bizy, always dramatic, reflective, rarely predictable, and often electronic' (Musical America), was chosen for the three-season position from a national field of applicants, and now has the opportunity to follow a personalized development track focused on the advancement of her skills as an operatic composer.

A month ago while Jessica Lang was in Utah working with Ballet West, I rang her to interview her about her incredible year of ongoing success. Years ago I took class with Robert Battle and struck up a dance friendship with his company dancers including Jessica's husband Kanji Segawa. But I have never met Jessica herself. Of course she is the 'It Woman' of dance so I know a bit about her. With her embarrassment of accolades one would have to have their head buried in the sand not to. Besides the rapturous praise she has received for her work, she has also secured numerous commissions (American Ballet Theatre, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Japan at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Joffrey Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Ballet San Jose, Richmond Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Ailey II, ABT II, Hubbard Street 2, and New York City Ballet's Choreographic Institute, among many others), received many high profile awards (New York City Center Fellow for 2015, 2014 Bessie Award, 2013 Manchester Theatre Award, grants from Jerome Robbins Foundation, the NEA, the Choo San Goh Foundation, and a 2010 Joyce Theater Artist Residency supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation), is opening her own dance center in Long Island City, and is celebrating her company's 5th Anniversary Season at the Joyce. But how did she come to all of this?

Jessica Lang Dance, under the artistic direction of choreographer Jessica Lang, will celebrate its 5th Anniversary season with a week-long engagement at The Joyce Theater on June 14 – 19, 2016, featuring five pieces, including three New York premieres. There will be a post-performance Curtain Chat discussion with Lang and dancers from the company following the performance on June 15.

This summer, three nights of encore performances from some of America's best dance companies will return to cinemas across the U.S., presented by Fathom Events and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

New York Live Arts, home of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and under the artistic leadership of MacArthur Genius Award and National Medal of the Arts recipient Bill T. Jones, announced its upcoming 2016-2017 season today.

The Latino Theater Company has received a $500,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support capacity building activities. The grant provides $425,000 in spendable funds for use over three years to support the expansion of administrative staff and $75,000 in matching funds to support a revolving board-designated cash reserve.

Sundance Institute has selected 25 projects to participate in its Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs and new Theatre-Makers Residency, which will take place concurrently this summer in the mountains of the Sundance Resort in Utah. The confluence of these three artist development programs will provide Fellows the unprecedented opportunity to experience portions of the other Labs and will support a cross-pollination of creativity and personal expression across different storytelling forms.

The League of American Orchestras' 2016 National Conference in Baltimore, begins today, June 9, and continues through June 11. The conference focuses on orchestra diversity and inclusion, offering expert speakers from within the field and beyond, as well as a series of plenary and elective sessions on diversifying orchestra musicians, boards of directors, audiences, and the workplace. The Conference will welcome orchestra managers, musicians, staff, trustees, and volunteers from across the U.S.; it is the first League Conference to take place in Baltimore.

Victory Gardens Theater announces the June lineup for The VG Reading Series. This regularly scheduled program of play readings provides playwrights a platform to develop their plays-in-progress, and will give audiences opportunities to experience exciting new work throughout the year. The Reading Series adds to VG's current programming of world premieres and new plays and the IGNITION Festival of New Plays.

In honor of the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, Jessica Lang Dance will present the NY premiere of Sweet Silent Thought, inspired by five of the Master's sonnets.  The work  features readings of Sonnets 30, 40, 64, 71 and 105, by actors Chris Myers (Obie Award, Octoroon),  Chukwudi Iwuji (Shakespeare Festival's King Lear) and Nilanjana Bose-Ciupinska,  as part of the company's week-long season at The Joyce, running June 14 – 19, 2016.
