Hershey Area Playhouse to Kick Off Summer Classes, 6/10

Hershey Area Playhouse kicks off summer with children's theatre classes that focus on great American works. The youngest children will study classic story books near and dear to American childhood, while older elementary students work on a favorite genre, the melodrama. middle school and high school students will explore American playwrights and their great historical and cultural connections. All classes end in a gala evening of plays, fully staged with costumes, lights and sound created and operated by our technical theatre students.

The New Theatre Project announces a one week extension to its final performance of Pookie Goes Grenading by JC Lee. Originally scheduled to close of April 28, TNTP has added Friday, May 3, Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5 to the lineup and postponed its special closing night of the show and company celebration to May 5. All shows will be at 8 pm. And due to a huge demand and having to turn people away at the door, buying tickets in advance is highly recommended.
ATG's HIMSELF AND NORA Begins Performances Tonight

The full cast of Jonathan Brielle's new musical Himself and Nora has been announced. Joining the previously announced Matt Bogart, Jessica Burrows and David Arthur are Cole Burden (25th Anniversary Production Les Miserables) and Lianne Marie Dobbs (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn). The show comes direct from its success at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Previews begin tonight, April 24 with opening night slated for April 27.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Sunday Symposium, "A Conversation with Playwright A. R. Gurney," following the Sunday, May 5, 3 p.m. matinee performance of Gurney's witty and heartfelt story of the American family and its vanishing traditions, "The Dining Room," directed by Mark Lamos. Florida Studio Theatre Announces New Play Reading Series, Launching in May

Florida Studio Theatre announces its annual Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, which will present three new plays by contemporary American playwrights. The series will take place in the Keating Theatre on Monday, April 29 at 7:00pm, Monday, May 6 at 7:00pm, and Monday, May 13 at 7:00pm, and is part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays. Tickets for the series are 3 plays for $25, or individual play readings for $10. Additionally, FRIENDS of FST can purchase a subscription for all 3 plays for $15. THE WHIPPING MAN Opens at Marin Theatre Tonight

Marin Theatre Company, in a co-production with Virginia Stage Company, stages the regional premiere of Matthew Lopez's Civil War drama The Whipping Man in Mill Valley from March 28 to April 21, 2013. MTC's artistic director Jasson Minadakis directs the production. Featuring popular Bay Area actors L. Peter Callender, Nicholas Pelczar and Tobie Windham, as well as the design team from MTC's 2011 San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award nominated production of Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie, this co-production rehearsed and ran at VSC in Norfolk, Virginia, from February 26 to March 17, 2013, before tonight's move to MTC. Opening night at MTC is tonight, April 2.
