The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago celebrates its 40th season with its annual Rising Stars in Concert program tonight, March 21, at 7:30pm at the Civic Opera House. The talented singers and pianist of the 2014-15 ensemble will perform with members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra in works of Bellini, Berg, Berlioz, Bizet, Debussy, Donizetti, Floyd, Gounod, Handel, Korngold, Mozart, Puccini, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Rossini. Rising Stars in Concert is offered in celebration of an exceptionally successful year of study and performance for these up-and-coming artists.

Houston Symphony Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada will lead the orchestra, the Houston Symphony Chorus and vocal soloists on March 20-22 in Verdi's Requiem, a towering masterpiece by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi featuring dramatic operatic moments, brilliant symphonic writing and virtuosic solo performances.

Minnesota Opera presents five operas in its 2015-2016 season, which includes the highly anticipated world-premiere thriller, The Shining, by Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Moravec. It opens on Monday, February 9 with seven performances through Friday, March 6. Performance dates are Feb. 9, 14, 18, 26, Mar. 2, and 6 at 6pm; and Feb. 22 at 1pm. (Note earlier curtain times.) Tannhauser will be sung in German with projected English translations.

OPERATHON 2014, Lyric Opera of Chicago's annual live-radio marathon fundraiser on 98.7WFMT, celebrated its 35th anniversary by raising more than $550,000 (gross) during its 16-hour broadcast on Saturday, October 11.

San Francisco Opera today announced a cast change for the Company's current production of Vincenzo Bellini's Norma. American tenor Russell Thomas will sing the role of Pollione for the remaining five performances of the opera on September 14m, 19, 23, 27 and 30, 2014. Mr. Thomas replaces Italian tenor Marco Berti, who has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons.

Michael Tiknis, President and Managing Director of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, today unveiled Beyond the Aria, a new performance series produced by Harris Theater in a unique first-time association with Lyric Unlimited, on the Pritzker Pavilion Stage at Millennium Park.

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, announced today that the company is reporting a break even operating performance for fiscal year 2014. Lyric has operated in the black for 26 of the past 27 years-a record among the country's not-for-profit music and performing-arts companies.
