American Repertory Ballet to Present 'Meet the Company' On Pointe Event, 9/13

American Repertory Ballet will be kicking off its monthly On Pointe Enrichment Series with their annual 'Meet the Company' event on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 12:00pm, noon, at Princeton Ballet School - 301 North Harrison Street (above McCaffrey's supermarket in the Princeton Shopping Center). On Pointe events are usually held at 5:15pm. This is a special lunch-hour On Pointe in light of the beginning of Yom Kippur the evening of September 13, 2013.

Fordham Alumni Company to Present THE SUMMONERS, An Army Play & More

Back for its sixth summer, the Fordham Alumni Company will present six theatre and dance-pieces, each with a connection to Fordham Alumni. From a pool of over thirty applicants, these works were granted rehearsal space and time, as well as a culminating workshop performance at Fordham's Lincoln Center campus. All performances will be presented at the Veronica Lally Kehoe Theater at Fordham College at Lincoln Center (113 W. 60th St., NYC). Admission is free. American Repertory Ballet Announces 2013-14 Season - ROMEO AND JULIET, NUTRACKER & More!

American Repertory Ballet, New Jersey's preeminent ballet company, voted NJ's Favorite Dance Company in the Jersey Arts People's Choice awards, is delighted to announce its 2013-2014 Season of performances around the state. Season highlights include three major productions: the premiere of Artistic Director Douglas Martin's Romeo and Juliet at State Theatre in New Brunswick, with live music played by the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Kynan Johns; ARB's 50th Annual Nutcracker Season, which will span five weekends at theaters across NJ and include a “Celebrate the Legacy” reception; and Night of Fire, a program featuring the premiere of Martin's Firebird and the company premiere of Kirk Peterson's Afternoon of a Faun, at McCarter Theatre in Princeton. The 2013-2014 season will also include brand new works by American choreographers Mary Barton, Trinette Singleton, and Kirk Peterson and revivals of works by Ann Marie DeAngelo, Patrick Corbin, and the late Gerald Arpino, Joffrey Ballet co-founder and choreographer.

When benevolence, fine artistry and pure movement conjoin, you get Dance Works Unhinged, a benefit concert choreographed and performed by members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. On Sunday July 20, 2013, the Ailey Citigroup Theater presented an evening of original works for a good cause: the support of the Ailey Dance Resource Fund-ADRF--which provides financial assistance to company members in the form of career transition grants, creative endeavor grants, and emergency loans.

New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival with a very special season, beginning with two free evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, hosted by The Public Theater, on September 16 and 17 (rain date, September 18). The Festival will continue at City Center from September 25 - October 5 with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, including three new works from today's most exciting young choreographers, commissioned by New York City Center in celebration of the tenth anniversary.

Dance Producer Paul Szilard Passes Away at 100

Paul Szilard died peacefully at home on Friday, 26 July 2013, at the age of 100. He was born in Budapest, Hungary (August 24, 1912) and became a United States citizen in the 1950's. A former leading dancer, Paul Szilard has performed throughout the world with such famous dancers as Nora Kaye, Colette Marchand, Sonia Arova and others.

Company C Contemporary Ballet Announces 2014 Season

Company C Contemporary Ballet founder and Artistic Director Charles Anderson has announced details of the Company's 2014 season of two programs plus a benefit gala in San Francisco and Walnut Creek with performances January 30 through May 11, 2014, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and ODC Theater in San Francisco and the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The 12th season will feature a wide range of the kinds of ballets that have set the barre high for this 14-member Bay Area Company, which will return to New York for its third season there at the Joyce Theater August 9 and 10. Theatricality, precision technique, bravura performance, wit and a flair for the off-beat and innovative will be embodied in world premieres by Anderson, Susan Jaffe, Maurice Causey and Charles Moulton, as well as in the return of repertory favorites by Anderson, Patrick Corbin, Alexandre Proia, Charles Moulton and Yuri Zhukov. ROBERTO VILLANUEVA, born in the Philippines, is the Executive/Artistic Director and Founder of BalaSole Dance Company. He trained briefly at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and received his BA in Dance Performance from University at Buffalo. Acclaimed nationally and internationally for his abilities as a dance artist, Roberto has performed, conducted dance residencies, judged dance competitions, and taught master classes in U.S., Europe, and Asia. He has worked with renowned choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden, Kevin Wynn, Milton Myers, and Eleo Pomare and performed with dance companies such as Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Steeledance, Marie-Christine Giordano Dance, Pick of the Crop Dance, and Buffalo City Ballet. Fire Island Dance Festival 2013 Raises Record $394K for Dancers Responding to AIDS

Internationally recognized dance companies and fast-rising choreographers shared the picturesque stage of the 19th annual edition of Fire Island Dance Festival on July 19-21, raising a record $393,647 for Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For the third year in a row the festival set a fundraising record, surpassing last year's all-time high of $374,260. In its 19 editions, Fire Island Dance Festival has raised $3.3 million for the most vulnerable among us, helping to ensure they receive life-saving medications and health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance.
