Artists Rep is currently producing the world premiere of The Monster-Builder, a diabolical comedic treatise on modern architecture, by Amy Freed. As Freed is one of the nation's most lauded and respected new playwrights, Artists Rep is fortunate to host the inaugural production of this play. The Monster-Builder is directed by the esteemed and award-winning Art Manke and features a noteworthy West Coast cast.

Part of the fun is figuring out what's going to happen and where the whole thing is headed. It took me until intermission to figure things out, as Freed throws a big surprise at the audience right before the act break that tells us once and for all what we're watching.

Portland Shakespeare Project presents an ambitious second summer of producing with The Season of Lear -- two shows, playing in rotating repertory. The Season of Lear includes an inventive adaptation of William Shakespeare's King Lear written by award-winning local playwright C.S. Whitcomb, and a startling new staging of Shakespeare's classic King Lear using only six actors and keeping the original text intact. GOD OF CARNAGE will Open on September 9 at the Artists Repertory Theatre. This 2009 Tony winner for Best Play tells the story of two sets of parents who meet to discuss a bullying incident in what they hoped would be a 'civilized manner. ' As the evening wears on that intent goes awry, and the play turns ferociously hilarious, shocking and disturbing, as the parents battle for ethical superiority.

Portland Center Stage presents Frost/Nixon, the play that became the Oscar-nominated film, about the conversation between David Frost and Richard Nixon that irrevocably changed the media's relationship to the American presidency. Frost/Nixon previews on Tuesday April 14th, opens on Friday, April 17th and runs through May 10th, 2009. Tickets range from $30.00 to $66.50, with student and under 30 discounts available. Rush tickets for Frost/Nixon are $15 and available starting 10 minutes prior to curtain. Show times are 7:30 pm Tuesday through Saturday, with a 2:00 pm Sunday matinee and alternating Saturday 2:00 pm and Sunday 7:30 pm performances.
