Jungle Theater’s WAITING FOR GODOT Opens Tonight, 8/24

Twin Cities favorites Nathan Keepers (Estragon) and Jim Lichtscheidl (Vladimir) take on the leading roles in The Jungle Theater's WAITING FOR GODOT, Samuel Beckett's "tragicomedy in two acts," widely considered one of the most significant plays of the 20th century. Artistic Director Bain Boehlke directs the duo who play two old friends debating the meaning of life and the absurdities of human behavior in this funny, captivating and illuminating production. Allen Hamilton (Pozzo) and Charles Schuminski (Lucky) round out the cast.

Terre Jones Receives NOVAForward Award

On June 20, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) awarded Terrence D. Jones, President and CEO of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, with the prestigious NOVAForward Award. Bestowed yearly upon a Northern Virginia influencer in honor of their commitment to advancing the region, Jones was recognized during a luncheon attended by 700 leaders of the corporate, nonprofit, and political community.

Ford's Theatre Society will host its annual black-tie gala on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW) followed by a seated dinner at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum (750 Ninth Street NW). The evening will include the presentation of the Lincoln Medal to Morgan Freeman and Elie Wiesel, two individuals whose extraordinary character, accomplishments and life work reflect Lincoln's legacy of leadership, service, humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision.

Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah Jessica Parker and More to Participate in White House's Turnaround Arts Initiative

Today the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities announced the launch of a new artseducation initiative to help turn around low-performing schools, developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Domestic Policy Council. The Turnaround Arts initiative is a new public-private partnership designed to narrow the achievement gap and increase student engagement through the arts. Working in some of the nation's lowest-performing elementary and middle schools, this program will test the hypothesis that high-quality and integrated arts education boosts academic achievement, motivates student learning and improves school culture in the context of overall school reform, announced the committee's co-chairs, George Stevens Jr. and Margo Lion. Presidentially-appointed artists Chuck Close, Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington, Forest Whitaker, Damian Woetzel and Alfre Woodard to work with schools in eight states as part of the program.

CSC Presents MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING And HAMLET 6/11-7/25

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (CSC), Maryland's leading professional classics theatre, will have its longest stay ever at its Ellicott City summer home in 2010. CSC will present seven weekends of programming to accommodate its growing summer audiences. The eight-year-old company will mount its very first production of Hamlet and a first-time CSC director will helm the production of the always popular Much Ado About Nothing.
