Johns Hopkins University Displays Craig Tinsky's Unique Papercut Art

Specializing in portraiture, Craig Tinsky's works must be seen in person for one to truly appreciate his gift. He demonstrates an amazing eye, matched by a steady hand, and exceeded by limitless patience. Most pieces consist of a single sheet of paper with holes cut in it. That's how the artist describes much of his work. In fact, he developed a technique for creating images that look like photographs, simply by cutting holes in paper. Pieces range from 8" x 10" to nearly four feet high. Craig Tinsky is an innovative artist raised in Miami and living in Washington DC. He is best known for pushing the medium of papercut art and and creating works that look like paintings, screen prints, etchings, and photographs. Craig's work has been displayed or collected by DC's National Building Museum, the Maryland campus of the FDA, the world headquarters of Booz Allen Hamilton, the Seattle Monaco Hotel, galleries and collections in Florida, NY, NJ, DC, MD, VA, MA, WA, OR, Germany, Israel, UK, the private collections of a Federal Judge and a Tony award winning Broadway producer, among others. The beguiling thriller SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SUICIDE CLUB, a new script by Jeffrey Hatcher, takes the Park Square stage next Friday for a week of previews before opening on June 14. A fast-paced mash-up of the unforgettable characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyleand The Suicide Club by Robert Louis Stevenson, this script has its roots in Park Square's last wildly popular homage to the great sleuth, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily (2010). "David Ira Goldstein (Artistic Director of the Arizona Theatre Company, former Artistic Director of Actor's Theatre of Saint Paul) and Jeff Hatcher were in the audience at that show," explains Park Square Artistic Director Richard Cook. "Jeff boasted he could write an even better Sherlock and David Ira said 'then I'll commission it.'" David Mann directs and Steve Hendrickson returns once again as the absurdly smart Holmes, this time in a thriller with multiple murders in which Holmes is either target or suspect. Three performances have been added to meet the demand for tickets.
