The ASCAP Pop Awards are always a good time, but this year's ceremony on April 23 was truly a night to remember. We gave out special honors to some of the brightest lights in music: iconic hitmaker Desmond Child (Founders Award), Portugal. The Man (Vanguard Award) and pop chanteuse Lana Del Rey (Global Impact Award), plus our four Songwriter of the Year honorees, Starrah, Drew Taggart, Steve Mac and Max Martin - and celebrated the writers and publishers of the most-performed songs of 2017. Universal Music Publishing Group was named Publisher of the Year, and BMG took home Independent Publisher of the Year honors for the third consecutive year.

England's most distinctive, multiple award-winning, platinum-selling, hugely entertaining rock gods The Darkness have announced the release of their live album The Darkness – Live At Hammersmith, out on June 15th through Cooking Vinyl.

ASCAP, the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers, hosted its 35th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on Monday, April 23, recognizing four impressive songwriting talents with a 2018 ASCAP Pop Music Songwriter of the Year award, each for their individual achievement in crafting some of the most popular songs of 2017. Steve Mac won for 'Shape of You' (Ed Sheeran), 'Strip That Down' (Liam Payne ft. Quavo), 'Rockabye' (Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul) and 'What About Us' (P!nk); Max Martin, receiving the award for an unprecedented 11th time, for 'Side To Side' (Ariana Grande), 'Can't Stop The Feeling!' (Justin Timberlake), 'Send My Love' (Adele) and 'Just Like Fire' (P!nk); Starrah for 'Now or Never' (Halsey), 'Fake Love' (Drake), 'What Lovers Do' (Maroon 5 ft. SZA) and 'Havana' (Camila Cabello); and Drew Taggart for '1-800-273-8255' (Logic ft. Alessia Cara and Khalid) in addition to three hits by his band, The Chainsmokers: 'Something Just Like This' (ft. Coldplay), 'Closer' (ft. Halsey) and 'Paris.'  ASCAP President and award-winning songwriter Paul Williamspresented the awards. 

For one night only, Montalvo Arts Center will transform into the iconic Parisian night club Moulin Rouge for its biennial fundraising gala, Moulin Montalvo: A Gala Night in Montmartre. The evening will include a variety of dazzling surprises as guests are invited to mingle with colorful artists and can-can dancers, savor sumptuous cuisine by Le Papillon paired with paired with Champagne Taittinger and sophisticated French vintages, and dance the night away in the historic Villa. A highlight of the evening will be a high-spirited live auction, featuring once-in-a-lifetime experience packages. Proceeds from this black-tie event will go to support the Center's artistic and educational programming efforts and ongoing mission to engage the community in the creative process.  Legends will collide late this summer when Deep Purple and Judas Priest embark on a co-headlining North American tour. Produced by Live Nation, the outing will kick off August 21 in Cincinnati, OH and visit 25 cities across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping September 30 in Wheatland, California.  ickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, April 27 at 10am local time at LiveNation.com.

NBC was certainly rejoicing with 'Hallelujahs!' following the live broadcast of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, when almost ten million viewers tuned in on Easter Sunday. Now, almost three weeks after the momentous night, Judas and Mary reunite!

"Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert" stars Sara Bareilles and Brandon Victor Dixon hosted a screening and Q&A as part of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's "Conversations" series on Wednesday, April 18 at the Robin Williams Center for Entertainment and Media in New York City.  The Q&A was moderated by BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge. Molissa Fenley and Company, in collaboration with percussionist Frank Cassara and violist Ralph Farris, will present an evening of dance and live music, with scores by four contemporary composers. The program features four dances from Fenley's Water Table, three of which are New York premieres. The program also includes a new configuration of Fenley's 1979 work Mix. Performances are June 21–23 (Thursday–Saturday) at 8pm, at Danspace Project, 131 East 10th Street, New York, NY 10003.

THE GREEN ROOM 42 - Broadway's newest intimate concert venue - has announced that WAYNE BRADY will join "THE SOUL SESSION," the monthly event created and hosted by Broadway's KYLE TAYLOR PARKER, as a special musical guest on Sunday, April 22 at 9:30 PM. "THE SOUL SESSION" is an evening of showtunes and pop standards reimagined into stirring R&B, jazz and soul arrangements that feature music from shows like Hairspray, West Side Story, The Color Purple, and more. The show is directed by Nathan Peck with Music Direction by Joshua Stephen Kartes. The April edition will also feature Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale) as special guest.

British punk rock icons The Damned are on course to enter the UK album chart in the top 10 for the first time in their 41 year career. Their Visconti produced album 'Evil Spirits' is actually sitting in the Top 5 in today's midweek numbers.

NBC's live concert staging of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR aired this past Easter Sunday. Largely sung from the perspective of Judas, listeners join THE JOURNEY through final week in the life Jesus Christ, from Palm Sunday to the arrest and crucifixion. Performed live on a set of exposed scaffolding in Brooklyn's Marcy Armory, this live musical gave cause to all of its televised musical predecessors. Masterworks Broadway released the live recording of the vivacious television event digitally on April 6th, with a physical version to follow on April 20.

Rock icon Alice Cooper, who released his 27th album Paranormal last July via earMUSIC, has extended his previously-announced North American tour, announcing additional 2018 shows throughout October. The trek picks up again this summer, starting on August 3 in Wisconsin and now running through the end of October, including a lengthy section in Canada, from Briitish Columbia across to Ontario.
