Then the show remembers the late documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, who died this month at the age of 88.

GREY GARDENS Musical Team Remembers Albert Maysles

Albert Maysles, who directed the film GREY GARDENS, passed away on March 5, 2015. He was 88. The authors, director and producer of the Broadway musical adaptation of GREY GARDENS issued a statement in Maysles' honor today, March 6.

Just yesterday, President Barack Obama presented the National Medals of Arts in conjunction with the National Humanities Medals in an East Room ceremony at the White House. NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, 'Whether its animation or architecture, writing or music, these artists' creativity and passion have made an enormous impact on our nation. I join the President in congratulating them and celebrating the arts in our country.' The official citations for the 2013 National Medal of Arts recipients are: Julia Alvarez, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Joan Harris, Bill T. Jones, John Kander, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Maxine Hong Kingston, Albert Maysles, Linda Ronstadt, Billie Tsien and Tod Williams, and James Turrell. Check out the ceremony below!

John Kander, Bill T. Jones, BAM & More to Receive 2013 National Medals of Arts

President Barack Obama will present the National Medals of Arts in conjunction with the National Humanities Medals on Monday, July 28, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. ET, in an East Room ceremony at the White House. First Lady Michelle Obama will attend. The event will be live streamed at WH.gov/Live.

BWW Reviews: From Everything to Nothing: GREY GARDENS the Musical (Actors' Theatre)

based upon the 1976 documentary of the same name, by Albert and David Maysles, the offbeat and somewhat perplexing musical Grey Gardens acts as a pseudo-documentary of the rise and fall of the reclusive mother/daughter duo of 'Big' Edith Bouvier Beale and 'Little' Edith Bouvier Beale. Aunt and cousin, respectively, of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the story follows their lives from high society to abject poverty, living in a decomposing mansion overrun with flea-infested cats.

Alex Gibney Named American Film Institute's 2014 Guggenheim Honoree

The American Film Institute announced today that AFI DOCS will pay tribute to Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney as its 2014 AFI DOCS Charles Guggenheim honoree during its 12th edition held June 18-22, 2014 in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD.
