Photo Flash: Costume Designs for Canadian Opera Company's FLORENTINE TRAGEDY and GIANNI SCHICCHI

The Canadian Opera Company presents a double bill of one-act operas as part of its 2012 spring season with the Canadian premiere of Alexander Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and the return of Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, last seen with the COC in 1996. The two operas are presented in a new COC production by the legendary soprano-turned-director Catherine Malfitano and world-renowned conductor Sir Andrew Davis. A Florentine Tragedy is sung in German and Gianni Schicchi is sung in Italian, both with English SURTITLES™. The double bill of A Florentine Tragedy/Gianni Schicchi runs for eight performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on April 26, May 2, 5, 12, 15, 18, 20 and 25, 2012.

ELEKTRA, LA BOHEME et al. Set for Lyric Opera of Chicago in 2012-13 Season

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, announced yesterday the repertoire, principal singers, conductors, directors, and designers for Lyric's 2012-13 season. This was Freud's first news conference since becoming Lyric's general director on Oct. 1, 2011. Joining Freud for yesterday's announcement was Sir Andrew Davis, Lyric's music director, and Renee Fleming, Lyric's creative consultant (via Skype).

Met Live's THE MAGIC FLUTE and HANSEL & GRETEL Get Holiday Encores

This holiday season, NCM Fathom and the Metropolitan Opera will present special encores of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Mozart's The Magic Flute from the award-winning series The Met: Live in HD. The operas, presented in abridged versions and sung in English, are designed to bring appeal of the opera to families with children and will screen in the United States through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network on December 21 and December 22.

Live Nation Entertainment Announces New Executives for New York Market

Live Nation Entertainment (LYV: NYSE), the leading live entertainment and eCommerce company, today announced key appointments to the New York office and the North American Touring team. Veteran entertainment executive and concert promoter Alan Ostfield will fill the newly created position of President, North Atlantic for Live Nation encompassing the New York and Philadelphia regions. Jason Miller is named President of New York for Live Nation. He replaces Kevin Morrow who will return to his hometown of Los Angeles to join the North American Touring office as Senior Vice President. Ron Delsener will continue in his role as Chairman of the New York market. Geoffrey Gordon remains President of Philadelphia, taking on an expanded role as tour producer. 'Alan comes to Live Nation with an incredible wealth of experience in managing major sports and entertainment businesses and facilities,' said Mark Campana, Co-President of North America Concerts. 'Jason Miller who will be running our New York office has deep artist relationships from his work over the last 20 years, and then add in the iconic Ron Delsener, I believe we have a big team playing in New York.'

Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius XM Celebrates James Levine’s 40th Anniversary, 5/30-6/5

Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius XM (Channel 74) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of James Levine's Metropolitan Opera debut with a full week of Levine performances. Fifteen historic performances, three of which join the archival rotation on Sirius XM for the first time, will air in rotation for an entire week, beginning May 30 and ending June 5. The broadcasts will be introduced by Levine and other artists, some of whom will also pay tribute to the Met Music Director's extraordinary career in special segments between operas.
