Bernard Haitink will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting works by Austrian composers - Berg, Webern, and Mahler - and Beethoven, who spent much of his career in Austria. In the first program, Mr. Haitink will conduct Webern's Im Sommerwind, Berg's Violin Concerto with Leonidas Kavakos, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 9 at
8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. Bernard Haitink's appearances are part of an international, season-wide celebration of the 60th anniversary of his conducting debut with the Netherlands Radio Union Orchestra (now the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) and his 85th birthday.

As part of their eight-city duo tour, the music powerhouses perform Schubert's Sonatina in A minor, D. 385, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C minor, Op. 30, No. 2, and Brahms' Viola Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 120, No. 1, which is the composer's own adaptation of a work he originally composed with the clarinet in mind. The 2014 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will return for the 49th season with five free outdoor concerts, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (July 9); Cunningham Park, Queens (July 10); the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan (July 11 and 14); and Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx (July 15). The New York Philharmonic and the Music Academy of the West have entered into a four-year partnership that will create unique and intensive opportunities for selected Music Academy Fellows to train with New York Philharmonic musicians and Music Director Alan Gilbert in Santa Barbara and New York. Alan Gilbert, the New York Philharmonic, its Assistant Conductors, and musicians will have a presence at the Music Academy Summer Festival for training and performances each summer for four years beginning in 2014, culminating in a joint concert with the New York Philharmonic and Academy Festival Orchestra celebrating the Music Academy's 70th anniversary in 2017.

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 12th- annual summer residency there, performing six concerts July 18-25, 2014. Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct three programs, July 18-20, featuring works by composers for whom he has advocated during his tenure, ranging from Nielsen to The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in- Residence Christopher Rouse. The other Philharmonic concerts will be conducted by Bramwell Tovey (July 23 and 25) and Ted Sperling (July 24), and will feature works by Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Loesser, among others.

The April broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week — the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin — begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra in Beethoven's Coriolan Overture; Korngold's Violin Concerto, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos; Nielsen's Symphony No. 3, Sinfonia espansiva, with soprano Erin Morley and baritone Joshua Hopkins; and Nielsen's Symphony No. 2, The Four Temperaments. This recording of the two Nielsen symphonies was selected by The New York Times as one of the Best Classical Music Recordings of 2012. The following week Alan Gilbert leads the Philharmonic in Nielsen's Flute Concerto, with Principal Flute Robert Langevin as soloist, and Violin Concerto, featuring Nikolaj Znaider, as well as Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, Little Russian.

Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman, originally scheduled for March 30, has been postponed to Friday, May 23, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at 92nd Street Y at Mr. Bronfman's request, due to an unforeseen scheduling issue. Tickets originally issued for March 30 will be honored on May 23.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Nielsen's Helios Overture at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 26, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This will be the 23rd Annual Free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Alan Gilbert has led the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert each year since becoming Music Director in the 2009-10 season. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance; ticket distribution will begin at 6:00 p.m. The audio of the performance will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting. The program will be presented without intermission.
