Karina Canellakis to Lead Russian Festival at N.C. Symphony Summerfest, 6/12-13

The North Carolina Symphony, led by guest conductor Karina Canellakis, will perform a two-night Russian Festival that features two different programs of some of classical music's greatest works at the 2015 Rex Healthcare Summerfest Series on Friday, June 12 and Saturday June 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Cary's Booth Amphitheatre. Gates open for the concert series at 5:30 p.m. Children 12 and under are free on the lawn.

The Juilliard School will confer honorary doctorates on five remarkable artists during its 110th Commencement Ceremony today, May 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center (Broadway at 65th Street, New York City). Suzanne Farrell, Nicholas Hytner (pictured, left), Murray Perahia, Dianne Reeves, and Peter Sellars will be honored at Juilliard's May 2015 Commencement Ceremony.

New York Philharmonic to Release Complete Box Set of THE NIELSEN PROJECT, 6/9

The final recording and complete box set of The Nielsen Project - the New York Philharmonic's acclaimed multi-season survey of the six symphonies and three concertos by Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) - will be released June 9, 2015, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth. The final recording features Nielsen's complete concertos: the Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin, Clarinet Concerto with Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill, and Violin Concerto with Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider.

Pianist Kirill Gerstein will replace Jonathan Biss in the New York Philharmonic's performances of Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1, conducted by Susanna Ma?lkki in her New York Philharmonic debut, tonight, May 21, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m.; and Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. Due to an arm injury suffered in a recent accident, Mr. Biss is unable to perform with the New York Philharmonic on the advice of his doctor.

Entering its seventh season in 2015-16, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will extend its reach across New York City through a new partnership with National Sawdust (formerly Original Music Workshop), a new, non-profit, state-of-the-art music venue opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in October 2015.

New York Phil to Present CONTACT! as Part of 'Focus on Japan'

The sixth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, concludes with "Focus on Japan," Friday, June 5, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Jeffrey Milarsky in his Philharmonic debut. The program co-presented with Met Museum Presents, the live arts series at the Metropolitan Museum, will feature modern and contemporary works by Japanese composers and a work influenced by Japan: Takemitsu's Archipelago S for 21 players; Messiaen's Japan-inspired Sept Haikai, with Stephen Gosling as piano soloist; the U.S. Premiere of Misato Mochizuki's Si bleu, si calme; and the World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commission of Dai Fujikura's Infinite String.

Medici.tv Streams Live Webcast of NY Philharmonic at Philharmonie de Paris Today

Today, April 25 at 2:30 p.m., EDT, medici.tv (www.medici.tv) will present a free, live webcast of the New York Philharmonic's concert, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, of 20th- and 21st-century music at the newly opened Philharmonie de Paris, marking the first time an American orchestra is performing at the venue.
