MISS SAIGON Comes to MCCC's Kelsey Theatre This September

"Miss Saigon," the international musical sensation that ran on Broadway for a decade, opens the new season at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre. PinnWorth Productions proudly presents this blockbuster show for nine performances: Fridays, Sept. 9, 16, and 23 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on Sept. 9. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

It's been 30 years since Claude-Michel Schönberg &Alain Boublil's phenomenon of a musical opened in London. LES MISERABLES originally opened in London at the Barbican Theatre on October 8, 1985. It transferred to the Palace Theatre on 4 December 1985 where it ran for 19 years before moving to its current home at the Queen's Theatre on 3 April 2004 where it has already played for 11 years and looks set to at least equal the run at the Palace Theatre as it is still playing to standing room only. When Les Miserables celebrated its 21st London birthday on 8 October 2006, it became the World's Longest Running Musical, surpassing the record previously held by Cats in London's West End.

Utah Shakespeare Festival Announces New Board Members

The Utah Shakespeare Festival recently announced the addition of five new members to its board of governors: D. Matthew Moscon, Wayne L. Niederhauser, Ed Golembiewski, Ann Crocker, and Ken Adelman. These new members bring different and valuable insights to help forward the mission of the Festival. They will begin their three-year term starting this month. The Greenshow at the Utah Shakespeare Festival offers free family entertainment each Monday to Saturday at 7 p.m. until September 1. Each summer evening on the green surrounding the Adams Theatre, this pre-show entertainment features spirited song and dance. Every year, the Utah Shakespeare Festival works to capture the Bard's characters onstage. Oil Painter Richard Lance Russell does the same thing on canvas. This year, a solo exhibit of his paintings will be featured at the Festival. The paintings, depicting powerful scenes and memorable characters from Shakespeare's plays, will hang in the Randall L. Jones Theatre Gallery throughout the season, from June to October. An opening reception will be held on June 28th from 5:30-7:00 pm and Russell will be signing his work on June 29th from 12:45-1:45. Both events will be held in the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Russell's work can also be seen at his website: richardrussellart.com.

Utah Shakespeare Festival to Present Shakespeare's 38 Plays Over 12 Years

Under the leadership of Artistic Directors David Ivers and Brian Vaughn, the Utah Shakespeare Festival recently announced its commitment to produce all of William Shakespeare's 38 plays over the next 12 years in a new program called Complete the Canon. This year, 2012, marks the beginning of the program with the rarely-produced Titus Andronicus, as well as The Merry Wives of Windsor and Hamlet.
