Parks & Recreation Commissioner Cuts Ribbon On Hester Street Playground

Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe today joined City Council Member Margaret Chin, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) Director of Planning and Development Sayar Lonial, Community Board 3 Parks Committee Chair Thomas Yu, Hester Street Collaborative President Annie Frederick, and Cristina Roosevelt, great-great granddaughter of Sara D. Roosevelt, mother of Franklin D. Roosevelt, to cut the ribbon on nearly $5 million in improvements to Hester Street Playground. Students from IS 131 and University Settlement Day Care were also in attendance.

HotCity Theatre's 5th Annual GreenHouse New Play Festival to Run, 6/25-6/27

HotCity Theatre, a professional theatre company with a focus on contemporary programming and new play development announces the production of the company's 5th Annual GreenHouse New Play Festival. Three plays 'in progress' are chosen from over 250 submitted by playwrights all over the world. Each script is given a workshop that includes professional directors on staff at HotCity, a professional dramaturg (a literary drama scholar) and professional local actors. This workshop provides a springboard for re-writes, culminating in readings at the festival by professional actors and adjudicated by HotCity artistic staff. At the festival event, scripts are performed as staged readings, followed by talkback sessions where you, the patrons, are given the opportunity to offer your thoughts and ask questions of the playwrights.

Chicago Street Theatre Teams Up With Local Greenhouse for Plant Sale, 5/7-30

Starting this weekend, Friday, May 7, Chicago Street Theatre, Yeager's Greenhouse, and the Special Olympics are partnering up for a Plant and Flower Sale. The sale will be open for the remaining May weekends. Chicago Street Theatre partnered with Yeager's Greenhouses last spring and sold flowers, vegetables and herbs at the theatre. The proceeds benefited the theatre and local greenhouse. This year, for a second time, the theatre is again partnering with the Greenhouse, in addition to the Special Olympics. There will be a huge variety to choose from including: flats, hanging baskets, pre-made pots, gerbera daisies, impatiens, geraniums, wave petunias and much more.
