Canadian Stage opens the 2013.2014 theatre season at the Berkeley Street Theatre with two plays by Quebecois playwright Sarah Berthiaume, directed by the inaugural graduates of York University's MFA Program in Theatre - Stage Direction in Collaboration with Canadian Stage, Ker Wells and Ted Witzel. The Flood Thereafter, a twisted fairytale helmed by Wells (who recently directed the company's popular production of Macbeth as part of Shakespeare in High Park), is on stage tonight, September 22 to October 6. Set in a small fishing community and featuring Oliver Becker, Maggie Huculak, Courtney Ch'ng Lancaster, Kevin MacDonald, W. Joseph Matheson and Patricia Marceau, the play is a timeless fable, stretching from the historic roots of ancient Greece to a small village in Quebec today. Yukonstyle (directed by Witzel) begins previews October 13.

Recreational Fishing in Canada Receives Major Financial Boost from Federal Government

Earlier today, Randy Kamp, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and Manitoba MP Robert Sopuck, announced the formal launch of a Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnership Program to support the protection, restoration and rebuilding of recreational fishing habitat. The new fund, which was included in the federal budget earlier this year, will provide $10 million over two years to help local groups fund conservation projects related to fisheries and fish habitat.

TLC's new series HOOK, LINE, & SISTERS, premiering December 29th at 10PM (ET/PT), follows the unusual lives of the Andersons, a family of fishermen who have only three months to brave the Alaskan wilds for a pay day. Seven episodes have been ordered with the series finale airing February 2nd.

This year, Bering Sea Captains Sig Hansen (F/V Northwestern), Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand (F/V Time Bandit), and Keith Colburn (F/V Wizard) will have a few laughs, recap memorable moments, and pay tribute to their fallen brother, Captain Phil Harris. Set in a New Orleans hot spot - Blue Nile bar - they'll discuss the highs and lows they encountered during the past fishing season and watch never-before-seen footage from the high seas.

Auditions for the show will take place on Saturday, October 17, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.. Callbacks by invitation: Monday, October 19, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.. Auditions are set to be hled at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City. Rehearsals will commence on February 8, 2010.
