BWW Review: SOMETHING'S AFOOT Steps Lively At Vagabond

Once again, Vagabonds produces a heartwarming show full of laughs, props and loveable, resplendently costumed characters. If you're in the mood for a happy, snappy little musical with a measure of murder in the mix, SOMETHING'S AFOOT is your cosy cup of tea.

Austin's City Theatre's THE MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940 to Run 10/23-11/15

Mystery and murder is the entertainment choice this Halloween season! However, this time it's complete with Nazi saboteurs, secret passageways, flickering lights... and, well, the blizzard of the century. That is indeed the case as Austin's City Theatre's continues its 10th anniversary season shooting squarely at the funny bone with John Bishop's comedy thriller The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. The show runs four weekends October 23 - November 15.

A British Invasion: Stars Cross the Pond to Light Up Broadway This Fall!

'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway.  An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.   It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon. This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports.

Louise Jameson to Star as 'Mrs. Boyle' in 60th Anniversary of THE MOUSETRAP, January 2016

Louise Jameson (Doctor Who, EastEnders, Doc Martin) will star as Mrs Boyle in the record-breaking 60th anniversary tour of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap from January 2016. The beloved murder mystery will begin the 2016 leg of its tour at Nottingham Theatre Royal on 19 January before visiting more than 25 further venues across the UK. Further casting will be announced in due course.

FIRST LOOK: Kentwood Players Opens Musical Murder Mystery SOMETHING'S AFOOT, 11/13

Here's your first look at the musical murder mystery "SOMETHING'S AFOOT" that spoofs detective stories, most particularly Agatha Christie's, And Then There Were None (a.k.a. Ten Little Indians). The play involves a group of standard British mystery characters (the Cockney servants, the brash retired military man, the imperious dowager, the snoopy spinster, the ne'er-do-well nephew, the ingenue couple) who are invited to the lake estate of Lord Dudley Rancour. When the wealthy lord is found dead, it's a comical race against the clock and some outrageous booby traps to find out whodunit.

BWW Review: Theatre Memphis Plays 'Cats and Mouse' With WAIT UNTIL DARK

The set alone is testament as to why Theatre Memphis invariably is recognized during awards season for its designers -- two dominant windows admitting shifts in light as darkness falls, steps descending into a blind woman's apartment (steps on which menacing characters will align themselves as they focus on their sightless victim), a refrigerator that will become a hiding place, a source of danger, and a shield of protection. Frederick Knott's chiller (adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and suspensefully helmed by Director Tracey Zerwig Ford) is a tense and understated October alternative to the bucket of blood drenching poor CARRIE just across town at Circuit Playhouse.

BWW Interview: Old Opera House to Present A PARTY TO MURDER

Some people complain they're bored to death while playing board games, but what if a seemingly normal board game was actually the cause of death? In A Party to Murder, premiering this weekend at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV, characters fight for their lives in a murder mystery game.

BWW Review: Strollers' MOUSETRAP Gets the Cheese

Agatha Christie's Mousetrap has been running non-stop since it opened in 1952 on the West End. The film can't be made until the show runs its course, mystery lovers continue to see it long after the criminal has been found out, and those who have seen it already are sworn to absolute secrecy.
