Leslie Malin Elected Vice President of Shakespeare Theatre Association

Cheasapeake Shakespeare Company's Managing Director, Lesley Malin, was elected Vice President of the Shakespeare Theatre Association at the 2011 conference held in Boulder, Colorado this January. This position puts her in line to become the association's President in 2012, leading the annual conference to be held in Seattle, Washington.

Old Globe to Feature MUCH ADO, AMADEUS et al. in '11 Summer Season

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced The Old Globe's 2011 Summer Season. Adrian Noble will return as the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Festival and direct Shakespeare's The Tempest and Peter Shaffer's Amadeus. Presented in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, the Festival will also include Much Ado About Nothing directed by Ron Daniels. The season also features Hershey Felder in Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein in the Old Globe Theatre. Preceding Bernstein is a 10-day limited engagement of Hershey Felder in George Gershwin Alone. The West Coast Premiere of John Morogiello's romantic comedy, Engaging Shaw, in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre will complete the season.
TV: Robert Foxworth Stars in King Lear at Old Globe

Robert Foxworth plays King Lear and Bruce Turk the Fool in Shakespeare's tragedy, directed by Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble. The crowns are swapped in Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III, also helmed by Noble, where Miles Anderson will play King George III and Foxworth will play Dr. Willis. The Festival also includes Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew directed by Ron Daniels with Jonno Roberts and Emily Swallow as the two sparring lovers.

As in the initial New York staging of the play by Nora and Delia Ephron, the production will feature a company of six that rotates in four-week cycles. The next cast will be announced in the next upcoming weeks.

Old Globe Celebrates Their 75th With an Open House 6/13

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced an Open House event that begins the Globe's year-long 75th Anniversary celebration. The free event will take place on Sunday, June 13 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and feature performances, backstage tours, costume displays, sword fighting demonstrations, bagpipes and Elizabethan dances. Presiding over the Open House will be Queen Elizabeth - played by Old Globe Associate Artist Marion Ross.
