The Dallas Opera is proud to announce the eighteen artists from around the world who are vying for the prestigious "Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year" Award to be announced at the annual Dallas Opera Board and Trustee Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, May 19th at 6:30 PM in the Crescent Ballroom of the Rosewood Crescent Hotel, 400 Crescent Court in Uptown Dallas.

The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce the five darkly dazzling operas that comprise the company's 2011-12 season in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. With opening night on Friday, October 21, 2011, the 55th international season - "Tragic Obsessions" - will showcase compelling works by Donizetti, Janacek, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and will include an outstanding Dallas opera-in-concert, important debuts and some of the company's most renowned productions. Each opera will feature the superbly talented Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Opera Chorus and will be performed in its original language, with English translations projected above the stage at every performance. The libretto of Katya Kabanova was written in 1921 and based on The Storm - a play by Alexander Ostrovsky that was very popular at the time. It tells the tragic story of Katya, the young wife of Tikhon Kabanov, a man with a domineering mother who controls the entire household. Jana?ek created the prototype of a tragically lonely, independent woman with a strong sense of self. For her opposition to narrow-mindedness and an unhealthy matriarchy, for her right to freedom, Katya pays the highest price. Katya Kabanova is an extraordinarily emotional work, filled with melodic tenderness and fiery passion. This is the first production of the opera at Poland's national opera house. The project is the effect of a collaboration between the Polish National Opera and the English National Opera. The director, David Alden, is one of the most fascinating and famous directors of opera in the world today.

Lyric Hammersmith Artistic Director Sean Holmes directs an A THOUSAND STARS EXPLODE IN THE SKY a new play by three of the UK's finest playwrights David Eldridge, Robert Holman and Simon Stephens.

Shakespeare on the Sound, Connecticut's premier outdoor summer theatre company presenting free Shakespeare in the park, has announced that it will release a studio recording of the brand new, specially commissioned music by 2008 Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Stew for Artistic Director Joanna Settle's inaugural production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The recording is expected to have 15 tracks, featuring 5 all new songs by Stew. The CD will be available for pre-sale at all performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Release date is scheduled for July 21, 2009.

Shakespeare on the Sound, Connecticut's premier outdoor summer theatre company presenting free Shakespeare in the park, has announced the complete 17-member cast for Artistic Director Joanna Settle's inaugural production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with music by 2008 Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Stew.

Under the new leadership of General Manager and Artistic Director George Steel, and with all performances taking place in the newly renovated David H. Koch Theater (formerly the New York State Theater), New York City Opera will present five operas in 2009-2010, in fall and spring seasons. With repertoire that spans opera history from the early 18th to the late 20th centuries - including the premiere of a new production - the 2009-2010 season reaffirms the company's historic mission to present innovative productions, to champion contemporary works, to rediscover early and lesser-known operas, and to promote American artists.

Broadway performer Christianne Tisdale will be featured in One Touch of Venus, presented by England's Opera North, from November 3rd through 12th
