Playhouse on the Square presents the world premiere of Adam Seidel's beautiful new work, Other People's Happiness. On a weekend trip to the family cabin, Sara tells John that after 30 years of marriage, she is leaving him for a much younger man. Her decision leaves her entire family in chaos, causing the audience to ask the question, "When you give up your happiness for everyone else, what is your breaking point?" Other People's Happiness is a play about blind devotion, failed expectations, the redefining of family, and the enduring nature of love. Other People's Happiness is a winner of the 2015 NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting competition.

THEATER at Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) has announced the finalists for its 15th Anniversary season to run at the Cherry Lane Theatre and Joe's Pub at The Public Theater during spring 2017. The finalists were selected from over 100 submissions from some of the nation's most talented emerging playwrights. THEATER is produced by Creative Ammo Inc. and Reg E. Gaines, two-time Tony nominee, returns as THEATER's Artistic Director.

We're so lucky to have the privilege of having the St. Louis Actors' Studio present the Labute New Theater Festival each year. Submissions come from around the country, are whittled down to a few, and then presented in two parts, with each section receiving a full two week run. In addition, there are staged readings of the High School finalists who also submit their new works. While I was unable to attend the first part, I did get a chance to see the second, and was pleased with the results of this years' choices. It was a good mixture of styles and approaches, and it continues to be something our region should be very proud of.

When Kate shows up with an unexpected guest, Ellie is forced to confront many demons, including her ideas about race, biology, bigotry, and sexuality.

The NewWorks@TheWorks Play Competition was established in 2013 to renew our focus on cultivating new and original theatre. Playwrights are invited to submit their scripts and a panel of local directors, actors, and designers select six plays to be a part of a staged reading series.
