It was announced today that West End's Kerry Ellis will not perform in November during the upcoming 20th anniversary concert tour of the smash rock opera RENT, due to maternity leave. Rachel John will perform the iconic role of 'Mimi,' prior to Ellis' return in January.

Today in 2000, Aida opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1852 performances. Aida is a musical with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang. Aida was nominated for five Tony Awards and won four Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Musical Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Aida was also named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. 54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, has announced plans to augment its diverse programming with a varied new series of in-house productions including a new interview series, a new musicals-in-concert series (following-up on the success of the club's wildly successful High Fidelity in Concertevent), and a program for new composers. The venue will continue to present its popular Sondheim Unplugged series featuring some of Broadway's brightest stars sharing performances and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from their favorite Sondheim musicals.

Anthony Rapp has just been announced as joining the cast of If/Then, the new musical by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning creative team behind Next To Normal, Tom Kitt (music), Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), and Michael Greif (director). Mr. Rapp joins the previously announced Tony Award-Winners Idina Menzel and LaChanze in the world premiere musical. If/Then will play Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street) in spring 2014, beginning preview performances on Tuesday, March 4, and officially opening on Thursday, March 27, 2014.
