Produced by Chicago's TUTA Theatre, THE EDGE OF OUR BODIES begins performances on April 4 for a limited engagement through Sunday, April 22.
DeLanna Studi's powerful memoir play And So We Walked: An Artist's Journey Along the Trail of Tears begins preview performances on March 31, opens on April 6, and runs through May 13 in The Armory's Ellyn Bye Studio. Studi returns to The Armory to perform this solo show after a triumphant run as Marie Dorion, Sarah Astor and other roles in the two-year engagement of Astoria: Part One and Astoria: Part Two. Corey Madden, the executive director of the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, has been involved in the development of And So We Walked since initial research began in 2014 and comes to Portland to direct the production.
Royal Family Productions, a non-profit theatre company known for its innovative productions and development of new original work, will present a benefit staging of a new series of monologues entitled WOMEN ON FIRE: Stories from the Frontlines, written, curated, and directed by Royal Family artistic director Chris Henry from stories told to her by a group of anonymous women, with choreography from Lorna Ventura. The Joust Theatre Company is thrilled to introduce The Writer's Round Table, a new developmental writers' group comprised of four carefully selected playwrights whose work challenges and/or reimagines systemic norms. These four playwrights will join us in a 9-month developmental process to exchange ideas and develop their plays which will culminate in each play receiving two public workshop performances, presented in repertory in the Spring and Fall of 2018. Specific dates and locations of these workshops will be announced soon.
Asolo Rep continues its record-breaking season with Lisa Loomer's ROE, a poignant new play that humanizes and examines both sides of one of the most polarizing Supreme Court cases of all time: Roe v. Wade. Asolo Rep is proud to be only the fourth theater in the country to be granted the rights to this must-see production. Directed by Lavina Jadhwani and based on the original production directed by Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Artistic Director Bill Rauch, ROE previews March 14 and 15, opens March 16, and runs in rotating repertory through April 15 in the Mertz Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts.
