The play also examines the human tendency to make wishes, especially in moments when we feel powerless. It all takes place in the shadow of a giant hourglass. Nevertheless, the universe breathes on.
Andrew Hinderaker's stunning theatrical hybrid The Magic Play begins preview performances at The Armory on March 3, opens on March 9 and runs through April 1 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Artists Rep presents the World Premiere of Magellanica, by E.M. Lewis, directed by Damaso Rodriguez from January 20 through February 18 on the theatre's Morrison Stage. Magellanica is a five-part epic play written by Oregon playwright E.M. Lewis. This production is made possible through major funding from the Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) Creative Heights Initiative and the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. Magellanica is a part of Portland's Fertile Ground Festival of New Works.
PROFILE THEATRE presents a production of the comedic drama 2.5 Minute Ride by Pulitzer and Tony-winning playwright Lisa Kron. Riding the rails of humor and horror, this solo performance features NYC-based actor Allison Mickelson, who recently impressed audiences at Portland Center Stage in Lisa Kron's award-winning musical Fun Home. Exemplifying this season's CVRep theme of 'Romance, Real or Imagined', The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? touches on relationships and betrayal in true Albee style. The 102nd Season at Cleveland Play House (CPH) continues with The Invisible Hand by Pulitzer Prize-winning Author Ayad Akhtar. The Invisible Hand tells the story of American investment banker Nick Bright as he risks everything to return to his family. Held hostage in Pakistan by Islamic revolutionaries, his last chance for freedom depends on his ability to play the stock market to benefit his captors. This sharp geo-political thriller from Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar takes us to the treacherous intersection of terrorism and capitalism, where greed and deceit prevail and no one escapes without blood on their hands. Directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh, The Invisible Hand runs February 17th through March 11, 2018 in the Outcalt Theatre at Playhouse Square.
National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, celebrates the continuation of the Rolling World Premiere Halftime with Don by Ken Weitzman at Phoenix Theatre. The play will receive a total of three distinct NNPN RWP productions, rolling through Core Members New Jersey Repertory Company (Long Branch; June 24-July 30, 2017), Phoenix Theatre (Indianapolis, IN; October 25-November 19, 2017), and B Street Theatre (Sacramento, CA; September 11-23, 2018). Halftime with Don was a finalist for the 2015 National Showcase of New Plays and is NNPN's 65th Rolling World Premiere.
The world premiere of the first English-language adaptation of the classic novella by Ghassan Kanafani, Returning to Haifa, adapted for the stage by Naomi Wallace and Ismail Khalidi, opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season on Tuesday, 27 February 2018 (Press Nights: Thursday 1 and Friday 2 March 2018 at 7.30pm).
