New York is the home of some of the most renowned and exemplary dance companies in the world, such as New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater. It is quite easy for New York balletomanes to fall into the habit of seeing the same iconic and large-scale works year after year. While there is nothing wrong with seeing particular dancers perform well-known works with their respective companies repeatedly, it is quite refreshing to see some of these New York based dancers perform new works on a much smaller scale.

INTERMEZZO Dance Company, a ballet company founded by American Ballet Theatre soloist Craig Salstein, announces its 2015 season, featuring five World Premiere pieces, running from this weekend, January 17-18, 2015.

Today, June 3rd, Metropolitan Ballet Academy will begin its annual master class series, The Bridge. The series gives intermediate and advanced level students the opportunity to study with some of the region's most celebrated professional teachers and dancers. This year's series features ballet instruction led by three acclaimed dance artists and teachers: Abi Stafford, Olga Kostritzky, and John Selya.

Nearly 31 years have passed since George Balanchine, the prolific and pioneering 20th century choreographer, died on April 30th 1983. Yet the New York City Ballet, the company he co-founded with Lincoln Kirstein 80 years ago, continues to revere and remember him with equal parts fondness and awe. That legacy of love and respect for Mr. B was especially evident on January 25th 2014, the 4th annual celebration of "Saturday at the Ballet with George" in honor of his birthday. He was actually born on January 22nd 1904 but scheduling the event on a Saturday allows for a daylong series of workshops and performances, all of them affordable and some of them free.

New York City Ballet opened its annual season of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, on Friday, November 29 at 8 p.m. at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The 2013 season of the holiday classic, sponsored for a second year by The Travelers Companies, Inc., will include 47 performances through Saturday, January 4, 2014. New York City Ballet announced today that Principal Dancers Jenifer Ringer, Janie Taylor, Sebastien Marcovici, and Jonathan Stafford will retire from the Company during the 2014 Winter and Spring Seasons. All four of these Principal Dancers joined the Company during the 1990s as members of the corps de ballet, and have performed countless roles by numerous choreographers during careers spanning from 15 to 24 years with New York City Ballet.

NYC Ballet's Black and White program offers rich rewards for dedicated dancegoers. The company is in great form, so much so that it's too much for the eye to take in.

Tom Gold Dance has been invited back to be a part of Stars Of Ballet in Bilbao, Spain, as part of the program Works & Process at the Guggenheim. This will be the 5th season for the company in Bilbao. They will present performances on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22 at 7:30 pm at El Auditorio del Museo Guggenheim, Bilbao, Spain.

Tom Gold Dance will present two evenings of dance with a program that will feature the World Premiere of La Plage with music by John Zorn, also included on the program will be Faure Fantasy with music by Gabrielle Faure; Gershwin Preludes, music by George Gershwin; and Mad about the Boy with music by Ivor Novello and Noel Coward, all with choreography by Tom Gold.

Tom Gold Dance has been invited to be a part of the International Ballet Festival of Havana in Cuba. They will present two performances, Wednesday, October 31 at 5:00 PM and Thursday, November 1 at 5:00 PM at The Mella Theatre of Havana, Cuba.

The cast of internationally-acclaimed dance stars appearing in BalletMet's Global Dance Stars Gala is now complete. Artists from Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, New York City Ballet, Northern Ballet of England, Tom Gold Dance and Broadway will join the talented dancers of BalletMet for this one-night-only event August 18th at the Ohio Theatre (39 East State Street).
