Author Tira Palmquist Talks TEN MILE LAKE at Serenbe Playhouse, Opening Tonight

In Tira Palmquist's Ten Mile Lake, receiving its world premiere this June at Serenbe Playhouse, Maggie (Veronika Duerr) and Howard (Mark Kincaid) tread the choppy waters of their strained daughter/father relationship. Over the course of the show both come to realize how important they are to each other, and how a place known as 'home' can drive a wedge between two people and ultimately bring them back together.

Rattlestick's ODE TO JOY Ends Extended Run Today

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that following strong reviews, the world premiere of Ode to Joy, written and directed by Craig Lucas, ends its run today, April 19 at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street.

Richard and Sharon Jenkins to Receive Trinity Rep's 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement; Ceremony Set for 6/9

Trinity Rep announced today that former artistic director and Academy-award nominated film, stage and TV actor Richard Jenkins and his wife Director/Choreographer Sharon Jenkins will be honored with the 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The theater also announced that nationally known dance educator and choreographer Mary Paula Hunter will receive the 2014 Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The 18th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.

FST Welcomes Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author Gilbert King Tonight

Florida Studio Theatre will welcome Pulitzer Prize Winning Author Gilbert King for a discussion of his book Devil in the Grove, and its relation to the themes present in the production of THURGOOD. As an addition to FST's panel discussions, it will take place tonight, February 26 from 5:30-6:45pm in the Keating Theatre.

Howard County Arts Council Honors Howie Award Winners

The Howard County Arts Council will honor its 2013 Howie Award winners at the 17th Annual Celebration of the Arts on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, Howard Community College, Columbia, MD. Joann Fastoff's New Novel Explores Underground Tobacco Smuggling

Tobacco smuggling became such a problem that in 2013, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) sponsored a bill titled 'Smuggled Tobacco Prevention Act of 2013.' Author JoAnn Fastoff's fourth book in the Howard Watson mystery series, 'The Smoke Ring: (A Howard Watson Intrigue)' (published by AuthorHouse), addresses the real-life problem of tobacco smuggling within the story of a fictional tobacco smuggling ring.

Kronos Quartet and Friends to Perform in 40th Anniversary Celebration at Carnegie Hall, 3/28

Carnegie Hall celebrates the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking contemporary music ensemble Kronos Quartet with a one-night-only concert in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage featuring collaborations with some of the group's close colleagues and longtime artistic partners on Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. The program includes the world premiere of Terry Riley's The Serquent Risadome, commissioned by Carnegie Hall and written for the anniversary, which marks the 27th new work for Kronos by the acclaimed California maverick composer.
