Akin to a Las Vegas show, We 3 Kings works dynamically as a showcase for its 3 artists: Luca Ellis, Shawn Klush and Brandon Michael Jones, especially for Jones, currently considered the premiere tribute artist of Michael Jackson. Now onstage at the El Portal in NoHo through New Year's Eve, it's enjoyable fare for those of us who grew up with and lived through the music of all three. Frank Sinatra (Luca Ellis) was the King of Swing of the 40s on up, Elvis Presley (Shawn Klush) the King of Rock and Roll in the 50s and Michael Jackson (Jones) the King of Pop commencing in the 60s as the tiniest member of The Jackson 5 (Jacquez Shanigan).

THE YELLOW WALLPAPER: The Writing, and Composing, on the Wall
"This needs to be a musical." With those words to composer Sarah Taylor Ellis, writer/actor/director Lane Williamson handed over a copy of Charlotte Perkins Gilmore's 6,000 word seminal 1892 short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, often considered to be one of the very first feminist works. As she began to read, Sarah knew exactly what Lane meant. Collaborators since meeting during graduate school at UCLA, Sarah and Lane have found that they share a deep connection and creative sensibility, so Sarah knew immediately that Lane was talking about how the "character" of the wallpaper itself, as it reflected the main character's desperate search for self, could be expressed in shifting musical patterns, textures and styles, mirroring the psychological experience of the room's inhabitant.

Philadelphia harpist Elizabeth Morgan-Ellis has announced her upcoming concert of harp music by living composers for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Like many fringe events, this performance is a little out of the ordinary. By incorporating dance, performance art, and projected visual effects into her presentation of works by local composers, Elizabeth is updating standard concert format into a dynamic window into the mind of living composers. 'If you think of the harp as a boring parlor instrument, think again!' says Harp Column editor Kimberly Rowe. 'Elizabeth Morgan-Ellis manages to bring the harp into the 21st century. Her upcoming performance at the Fringe Festival promises to be fresh and inspiring.'
