Khalid Gonçalves was born and raised in Greenwich Village, NYC and is of Portuguese descent.

He first performed on stage at the age of 12, starring as Captain Von Trapp his grade school's production of "The Sound of Music".

Gonçalves studied acting formally with Lisa Eichhorn at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. From there, he went on to the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, where he learned from Dragica Dimitrijevic and Tom Ferriter. Later, he studied the Meisner Technique at Caymichael Patten Studio, under the tutelage of David Perry.

Gonçalves has appeared in various stage productions since his auspicious debut, most notably, in the critically acclaimed Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God, the Charles Messina-penned and directed monodrama in which Gonçalves portrayed rock legend Freddie Mercury.

Gonçalves also played the role of late actor James Hayden in the play Actor Found Dead, also written and directed by Messina.

Besides his appearance in contemporary works, Gonçalves has also performed in such classics as: Anton Chekhov's The Bear and Three Sisters (in the roles of Luka and Vershinin, respectively), in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, and in William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (as Borachio).

Gonçalves made his film debut in 1996, portraying a heroin addict in the Matt Mailer film “The Money Shot”. Among other film roles, Gonçalves starred opposite Elisabeth Röhm, Ian Lithgow, and Francis Jue in the comedic short film Puppet, Love and Mertz, which was written and directed by Joe Lovero.

More recently, he appeared in the Russian language film "The Casualty", which was written and directed by playwright Alexander Galin.

Besides stage and film, Goncalves has worked in other media as well. He recently appeared with James McCaffrey in the video game Max Payne 3. He can also be seen on's mock news report "East Timor's First Female Dictator Hailed as Step Forward for Women".

Gonçalves is also a musician who is the former bass player and songwriter of the now defunct New York-based hard rock bands Static 13 and Violet Crush.
