Keith Josef Adkins’ plays include PITBULLS (Fall 2014 Rattlestick Theater, NYC), SAFE HOUSE (Winter 2015 Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Fall 2014 Cincinnati Playhouse), THE LAST SAINT ON SUGAR HILL (Fall 2013 National Black Theatre NYC, 2012 MPAACT Theater, Chicago), THE PEOPLE BEFORE THE PARK, SUGAR AND NEEDLES, among others. His play The Last Saint earned a 2012 Jeff nomination for Best New Work in Chicago. He was recently commissioned by the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa to write a play on the theme of "release" to mark the 25th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's release from prison. Other awards include two NYSCA commissions for the Public Theater and Epic Theatre, and the Nationl Black Theatre’s Trailblazer Award. Keith was recently selected for a 2013-14 Project Residency at the Lark Playwright Development Center.

Keith is artistic director of The New Black Fest, a festival of new playwriting and discussion from the Diaspora. TNBF recently curated Facing Our Truth: Ten-Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race and Privilge.

Keith worked as a writer for the hit CW comedy GIRLFRIENDS. His sci-fi webseries, THE ABANDON, is currently being developed into a feature film with executive producer and Emmy-Award winning actor Eriq LaSalle. Keith has taught graduate playwriting at Columbia University and blogs regularly for HowlRound, an online theater journal. He’s also a former culture blogger for TheRoot.com. He earned his M.F.A. from University of Iowa.
