Dmytro Morykit BIO

Born in Northampton to Ukrainian/Italian parents, Dmytro Morykit, was an award-winning composer and pianist from an early age. Although from the classical tradition, he embraced many genres including rock, jazz, pop and theatre; composing and playing for poets, dancers and film makers, all adding to his eclectic skill. In 2013 he decided to concentrate on composing and performing concert scores alongside both modern and historical silent films. He is now recognised for his acclaimed new score for Fritz Lang’s Metropolis and his piano suite to Nosferatu both of which have toured extensively.

Working with a visual medium allows him to bring new audiences to both music and film. The vital ingredient is the live performance as each concert has its own interplay with the imagination of different audiences.

The music is not mimicry or a reaction to the images. It is composed independently of the visuals, many of the pieces were written over the past 30 years; both mediums then dance together. The music can be enjoyed as a concert in its own right but when combined with the visual image it creates a new aesthetic.
