BIO

Sheila Joon Azim is a half Iranian, half Swedish, Seattle native who's first name is Sheila-Joon: a classic Iranian term of endearment. After moving to New York, many of her first roles were with Judith Shakespeare Company where she played several of the Bard's male characters. At Primary Stages/ESPA Sheila Joon was awarded the Rockwell Scholarship for acting where she studied with Jackson Gay, Kellie Aucoin, Quincy Tyler Bernstein and Andrew Leynse and appeared in several staged readings with Primary Stages. An avid learner, she speaks fluent Farsi, some French, has studied Yoga extensively (200 hours RYT) and has found ways to express her intersectionality. Through the roles she's played she's explored topics close to her invisible intersectionality, including transgender roles as well as several plays around Black Lives Matter, Sheila-Joon has worked with award winning director and CD Pat Golden (Blue Velvet, Platoon, The Killing Fields) in several plays including Carefully Taught by Cheryl Davis which premiered at APAC where Sheila Joon played both Claire, a white teacher who gets herself in trouble with a lawsuit and Valerie her African-American best-friends daughter, Onaje by Robert Bowie Jr. and The Blasphemer by Daniel Curzon which premiered Off-Broadway at The Duke Theatre.
