Mummenschanz, the renowned theatrical troupe, returns to the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place) for 12 performances only. Part of a US national tour, the New York engagement begins tonight, November 20, and runs through November 30. The show will feature some of the most popular sketches created and performed by the internationally renowned troupe, as well as brilliant new creations (including one world premiere created especially for New York audiences). People usually think I'm joking when I tell them that one of my favorite original Broadway cast albums is the one for the Swiss mime troupe, Mummenschanz. But yes, they did record an album; one of audience reactions during a live performance at the sadly-gone Bijou Theatre during their 1977 three-year run. The vinyl LP is even divided into bands and the liner notes tell you exactly which routines the crowd is laughing at and applauding for.

World-renowned Swiss performance troupe MUMMENSCHANZ announced today plans to return to the United States for a multi-city, national tour this fall and winter, from October 2010 through January 2011. The three-month tour marks the celebrated troupe's return to North America for the first time since 2003, after a seven-year absence to tour other continents. The spectacularly entertaining, family-friendly program will showcase some of Mummenschanz's most beloved, imaginative and humorous characters from over the years, in addition to some newer original material.
The 2010/11 season at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts features six distinct performance series that highlight amazing artists and extraordinary experiences. This season showcases a world-class roster of performers including international theatre companies, jazz and world music greats, superstar dance companies and Philadelphia's most edgy and innovative artists.
