Lindsay Renea Benton

BIO

Lindsay Renea Benton is a Choreographer, Performance Coach, Movement Director and Dancer with a background in concert dance, musical theater, and Dance on Screen. She earned a BFA in Dance from Howard University and joined the Tony Award Winning Choreographer, Garth Fagan’s dance company, Garth Fagan Dance in upstate New York. While exploring her own creativity and choreographic endeavors she earned a MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. She She has choreographed for many companies, awards shows and productions including Komananse Dance Company, Muda Africa Tanzania, World Games 2022 Opening Ceremonies, and the 2023 GMA Dove Awards, as well as her own company, Notnebia Dance Company. She has been nominated as Broadway World’s "Best Choreographer" for creating movement to support scripted musical storytelling on theater stages including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Production of "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Nina Simone: Four Women”. Some of her other notable work as a choreographer at Alabama Shakespeare Festival includes 'Ruby Bridges Story", "Romeo and Juliet", "A Christmas Carol", "Blues In The Night " and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ". Visually, no matter the setting, Lindsay’s choreography is a blend of vivid storytelling through complex melodies and grounded syncopations that intrigues even the most trained eye and ear. She can be seen as a featured dancer in the newest movie musical adaptation of “The Color Purple”.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival presents Ruby: The Story of Ruby Bridges on the Festival Stage March 6 through March 22, 2020. Produced in collaboration with Montgomery Public Schools, the play is adapted by Christina Ham, who penned last season's Four Little Girls: Birmingham 1963 and Nina Simone: Four Women, with music by Gary Rue.
Red Clay Announces Choreographers For LA FEMME FESTIVAL

Red Clay Dance Company (RCDC), which creates and performs a diverse repertoire of Afro-contemporary dance, announces the third edition of La Femme Dance Festival, celebrating choreographic work by women of Black/African Diaspora/African descent. Performances are March 15 and 16 at the new Green Line Performing Arts Center, 329 E. Garfield Blvd. in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood.
