GOING DOWN IN FLAMES Runs May 30-June 9 at Headwaters Theatre


Based on a true story, the world premiere of Going Down in Flames by Danny Mankin runs May 30-June 9 at Headwaters Theatre and is directed by Angela Van Epps. Joan Schirle, award-winning actor, playwright, director, deviser and teacher, and the founding artistic director of Dell'Arte International in Blue Lake, CA., will play Joan Mankin and Mankin's legendary clown character, Queenie Moon.

Sara Felder's MELANCHOLY, A COMEDY Begins Tonight at The Marsh


Did Abraham Lincoln suffer from clinical depression? A grad student at Cal, newly in love, researches Lincoln's melancholy while trying to keep up with her amazing new girlfriend. The Marsh San Francisco presents the hilarious playwright, performer, juggler, and clown Sara Felder in her new solo show MELANCHOLY, A COMEDY. Felder takes audiences from the Civil War, to a Lincoln look-alike convention, to the top of UC Berkeley's Campanile, in this comedy about queer love, mental health, and Abraham Lincoln. Written and performed by Felder and directed by Michael Socrates Moran, workshop performances will be held today, May 9 - June 6, with the run continuing June 7 - June 28 (press opening: June 7).

Theatre Bay Area Announce Legacy Award Recipients


Theatre Bay Area (TBA), the nonprofit service organization for theatre and dance in the Bay Area, is pleased to announce the three Legacy Award recipients to be honored at the upcoming TBA Awards ceremony. This year's awards recognize local performer Joan Mankin, long-time theatre patron and benefactor Jill Matichak and Steve Silver's long-standing musical revue Beach Blanket Babylon for extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the region's theatre community at milestone points in their careers or history.

Stage and Screen Stars Set for ACT Fundraiser to Benefit Joan Mankin, 10/5


Luminaries of the local and national theatre scene -- including Tony Award winners Bill Irwin and David Shiner, Geoff Hoyle, Marga Gomez, Lorenzo Pisoni and Diane "Pino" Wasnak -- will appear on American Conservatory Theater's Geary Theater stage on Sunday, October 5 at 7 p.m. in a one-night-only production to benefit beloved local actor/clown Joan Mankin, aka Queenie Moon.

San Francisco Playhouse (Artistic Director Bill English & Producing Director Susi Damilano) concludes its provocative eleventh season with Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book). The production runs today, June 24th to September 6th, 2014, with an official opening set for June 28.

Cal Shakes Launches 40th Season with All-Female TWELFTH NIGHT, Running Now thru 3/2


California Shakespeare Theater will launch its year-long 40th anniversary celebration in February 2014 with William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in the company's first-ever performance tour to community settings throughout San Francisco and the East Bay. A co-production with San Francisco-based Intersection for the Arts, Twelfth Night will be directed by Michelle Hensley, Artistic Director of Minneapolis-based Ten Thousand Things, one of the country's most highly regarded classics-based theaters.

DI MEGILEH to Run 3/6-10 at JCC East Bay


The Yiddish Theater Collective in collaboration with KlezCalifornia and the 29th Jewish Music Festival willpresent the West Coast Premiere of Itzik Manger's Purim musical, Di Megileh, long beloved by Israeli and New York audiences for its catchy songs, sparkling humor, political satire and the tale of star-crossed lovers. Performances will be given at the JCC East Bay on March 6 & 8 at 8 pm, March 9 at 2 pm, and Monday March 10 at 1 pm.

Patty Gallagher Replaces Joan Makin in Cal Shakes' TWELFTH NIGHT


California Shakespeare Theater has announced a cast change in its production of Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT, directed by Michelle Hensley. Patty Gallagher will play the role of Andrew Aguecheek, replacing Joan Mankin.
