BWW Review: BOB MERRILL AND SUNNYSIDE SWING Play the Kravis Center (Feb 27, 2022)
BIO
Jill Lurie spent her early years in Connecticut, singing in the family living room with a fireplace poker in hand as her microphone. In high school, she performed in school and community musicals as well as with small groups and choirs. In 2000, Jill moved to Charlotte, NC where she sang and played guitar and drums with the Americana bluegrass ensemble The Dickens. In 2005, Jill co-founded the all-female band The Near Misses, named “Best New Band in Charlotte”. In 2014 she founded the South Florida based vintage jazz, blues and country band Sunnyside Swing with whom she sings, and plays ukulele and snare drum. She loves resurrecting early American jazz and county songs from the 1920's, 30's and 40's and performing them for audiences young and old. You can catch her regularly with her duo, trio, and quartet. By day, Jill is a mild-mannered licensed clinical social worker who enjoys counseling adult individuals and couples.
