BIO

Dezi Sol y is a prizmatic artist & entrepreneur dedicated to co-creating embodiments of the Divine through explorations in theater, film & performance art. Since earning her Bachelor of Arts (Cultural & Regional Studies, Minor in [Modern & Improvisational] Dance) from Prescott College (2013), she has trained and performed with folkloric Haitian & South African dance theatre companies (El Wah Movement and Jikelele Dance Theater) with whom she performed in the 2013/15 SF Ethnic Dance Festivals. Her original choreographed works consist of four multi-media pieces in the 2014/16 National Queer Arts Festival shows (Queer Rebels of the Harlem Renaissance, Stories of Queer Diaspora, SEEDS & Conjuring Roots) and she has starred in numerous film projects such as Brother (directed by Alrik Bursell), Baby Steps (directed by Jennifer Vo Le) and independent feature film LIKE, REPLY, SHARE (directed by Josh Peterson). Sol y's most recent theater credits includes starring in SAFE HOUSE (directed by L. Peter Callender) at the Aurora Theatre; Star Finch's BONDAGE (directed by Elizabeth Carter) with Alter Theater; Campo Santo's ETHOS DE MASQUERADE (directed by Sean San Jose) at The Strand; TheatreFIRST?s productions of THE FARM, THE PARTICIPANTS, BETWEEN US (directed by Margo Hall) and THE LAST SERMON OF SISTER IMANI (directed by Michael Gene Sullivan); Magic Theatre's THE GANGSTER OF LOVE (directed by Loretta Greco); LIFE AFTER DEATH - a collaboration between Crowded Fire Theater, Axis Dance Company & Ensemble Mik Nawooj (directed by Mina Morita); and Nambi Kelley?s adaptation of Toni Morrisson?s JAZZ (directed by Awoye Timpo) at Marin Theatre Company. Sol y is also founder and co-artistic director of The Chrysalis Space: an upcoming incubator, social club & performance space for Bay Area artists.
