BIO
Born Caleb Ryan Forlong in Matamata New Zealand, this Kiwi singer, actor, dancer and budding director is beginning to make a name for himself. Caleb moved to New York City to pursue work in the American acting fields, excited to be involved in the television and movie industry as well as the elusive powerhouse of Broadway.
Currently he is finishing study at the Lee Strasberg Institute where he is growing his acting potential and experience to add to his life long experience in the performing arts. Caleb has just produced his second show in NYC, ‘Crystal Method’, after a successful Off-Broadway Christmas musical in 2013 ‘One Merry Little Night’ at the Lynn Redgrave Theatre.
After a short stint in Matamata, the home of Peter Jackson’s ‘Shire’ from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (he never fails to mention this fact), Caleb grew up mainly in the rural areas of Auckland, New Zealand. From a young age Caleb was passionate about performance and being on stage. Coming from simple means meant he took every opportunity afforded to him in his somewhat small community.
Before Caleb moved to New York his pursuits were largely within music ensembles. To date he has belonged to over twenty one professional and semi-professional groups including the Auckland Chamber Choir directed by Dr. Karen Grylls and the 3 time national award winning choir Choralation directed by Rowan Johnston.
His successes in musical pursuits saw him performing all over New Zealand as well as overseas. Caleb has performed in the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Conservatorium, Darling Harbour (Australia), Christchurch Cathedral, Chester Cathedral, Hexam Abbey, Durham Cathedral, The Crown Court Church, Covent Garden (United Kingdom) and at home at the Auckland Town Hall, the Aotea Centre, the Christchurch Cathedral (before its demolition resulting from the 2010 Caterbury earthquake), and many more. In 2012 Caleb performed as part of the New Zealand Coral Federation Anthem Choirs where he sung the National Anthems for France, England, Scotland, Japan, and New Zealand at the Rugby World Cup.
He has worked with some of New Zealand’s most successful and experienced performers and directors including Dr. Karen Grylls, an authority on choral music, Dr. Morag Atchison a professional soprano and long time vocal coach, and David Squire the current director of the New Zealand Youth Choir.
In the states he continues to enjoy meeting and working with new people. Highlights include working with Tituss Burgess of The Little Mermaid and Jersey Boys, Jason Gotay of Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and is truly blessed to work with Irma Sandrey, a life time member of the Actor’s Studio and personal friend of and co-teacher of the method of Lee Strasberg himself.
