Judy Garland Tribute Starring Nancy Hays Comes to Oscar's Palm Springs
The event is on Monday, January 23rd.
Chicago actress and musical entertainer Nancy Hays will perform in a special one-night cabaret event on Monday, January 23rd at Oscar's Palm Springs, presenting songs from Judy Garland's historic Carnegie Hall and London Palladium concerts, accompanied on the grand piano by award-winning music director Robert Ollis along with a jazz combo.
This show grew out of the premiere Chicago production of The Boy From Oz, which featured Nancy Hays in the role of Judy Garland, working with music director Robert Ollis. As they developed this musical tribute, Robert went to great lengths to re-create Judy Garland's unique vocal arrangements from her famed concerts and iconic movie and TV appearances. Heartfelt solos such as "The Man That Got Away" and "Make Someone Happy", upbeat favorites like "Chicago" and "San Francisco", and special medleys of "Get Happy" and "Happy Days" are all backed by authentic stylings for piano, percussion, clarinet and sax.
The show has been performed in various formats to sold-out crowds in Chicago and at the famed Metropolitan Room in New York City, receiving critical acclaim in the Chicago and New York press: "Garland is ideally embodied, rather than imitated by Nancy Hays" - Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times. "The mannerisms, voice, demeanor and charisma are all there" - Chicago Theatre and Concert Reviews. "A wonderfully convincing Judy Garland" - Stage and Cinema.
Background information, bios of the performers and a gallery of photos and videos are found in the solo-show section of the website www.JudyLizatribute.com.
Nancy Hays is a veteran stage performer who has played leading roles in Chicagoland musicals including Mame, Gypsy, How To Succeed in Business, Pirates of Penzance, Steel Magnolias and The Boy from Oz. Nancy has also worked as an opening act in Las Vegas and elsewhere with such legends as George Burns, Danny Thomas, Tommy Tune, Rita Rudner, Conway Twitty and many others.
