The opening night galas at Theatre 29 have traditionally been a fund-raising opportunity for area nonprofits. Over the years groups like the College Foundation, Rotary Clubs, Library Friends, Reach Out, and others have raised thousands of dollars hosting the events. The opening Night of Roald Dahl’s “The Witches” on October 6, will also be a fund-raiser, but this time for the Theatre 29 organization itself.

Theatre 29 recently went through a series of major improvements to the performance and technical booth areas. The seating risers have been completely rebuilt with new safety railing and replacement of seats and new carpeting installed for safety and aesthetics. Just recently Theatre 29 volunteers completely repainted the theater interior featuring a black and gold motif. The concessions area has been renovated, restrooms got new hardware, a new amplifier was purchased for the sound system, and new dimmer packs for lighting.

While the improvements were necessary in the aging facility, they were also costly, and the organization is using the opening night opportunity to raise funds to offset the substantial costs.

The Opening Night Gala will feature food especially themed to the show catered by Kerry Jimenez, there will be a silent auction and live auction with many great items, and there will be an opportunity to see the show from a loveseat in the front row! Doors will open at 6:00 pm with the curtain going up at 7:00 pm.

'The Witches'. Based on the novel of the same name and faithfully adapted by David Wood will magically appear on the Theatre 29 stage weekends October 6 – 22.  Debut Director Nena Jimenez has assembled a cast of veteran performers as well as a number of debut players into this play featuring special effects, puppetry, specialized makeup designs and lots of zany stage magic.

The opening night audience is encouraged to come as a witch or in costume. Tickets for this fundraiser are available online at www.theatre29.org and are $35 (including processing fee).

After the October 6th opening night, “The Witches” will run weekends at Theatre 29 through October 22nd with performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00pm and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm. Tickets are available now, $15.00 for Regular Admission, $12.50 for Seniors and Military, and $10.00 for students with ID and children under 12 (service charge added). Reservations can be made at theatre29.org/tickets or by calling the Theatre 29 box office at 760-361-4151.
