DOUBLE TIME to Play Desert Ensemble Theatre

By:

DOUBLE TIME to Play Desert Ensemble Theatre ImageDouble Time, a musical revue, will be Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's 2018-19 Eight Season Opening Gala. Conceived and directed by DETC Artistic Director Jerome Elliott, this year's show is an official 2018 Palm Springs Pride Event. Friday, November 2 includes a pre-show reception followed by the performance; and Saturday, November 8 is a performance only.

DETC performs at the Pearl McManus Theater in the Palm Springs Woman's Club at 314 S. Cahuilla Road. Tickets are $30-40 and can be purchased in advance through the company's website, www.detctheatre.org, or by calling (760) 565-2476.

Double Time's cast features Elliott, Keisha D and Darci Daniels. Together, they have won a combined 10 Desert Theatre League Awards since 2013. Music direction is by Constance Gordy. The evening will feature an eclectic repertoire of Broadway, American Songbook, Jazz and Pop.

Elliott stated: "For the fifth year, DETC offers our now signature season opening musical revue. This event, which has grown in popularity with each successive installment, raises awareness of our high school theater internship program and the net proceeds fund college scholarships for two of our exceptional interns."

The Western Wind Foundation has offered a matching grant of up to $2,500 for scholarship funds raised at the event. A silent auction will help the company to achieve this goal.

DETC's season continues from February through April with For A Reason, a world premiere drama by Playwright-in-Residence Tony Padilla; David Auburn's Proof, the 2001 Pulitzer Prize & Tony Award winner; and Ellen Byron's Graceland/Asleep on the Wind, a nostalgic pair of one-act plays about three people who believed Elvis could lift them up from the drudgery of their everyday lives.

The Desert Sun readers recognized DETC as "Best Repertory Company" in the 2018 "Best of the Valley" poll. Palm Springs Life readers also chose DETC as "Best Live Theater, Palm Springs" in the magazine's 2018 "Best of the Valley by City."

TICKETS: $30-40. Visit www.detctheatre.org, or call (760) 565-2476
