Check In And Check Out The GRAND HOTEL At The Palm Canyon Theatre

Welcome to the mysterious Grand Hotel, an elegant hotel located in Berlin in the 1920s. This lively musical tells the story of a weekend at the hotel and the eccentric characters that are staying there. From the skeptical doctor to the fatally ill bookkeeper to the fading prima ballerina, there is a character for everyone in this hit musical. The Palm Canyon Theatre presents the hit Broadway Musical GRAND HOTEL for two weekends beginning April 5.

Originally based on the 1929 Vicki Baum novel, Menschen im Hotel (People in a Hotel), the story went on to becoming an English-language film adaptation in 1932 with the release of the Academy-Award winning film, Grand Hotel. It starred Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, and Joan Crawford. It wasn't until 1989 that Grand Hotel made its way to Broadway. It won five Tony awards and had a very successful run with over 1,000 performances on Broadway.

Palm Canyon Theatre's production features several familiar PCT faces, including Jacob Samples, Se Layne, Ben Reece, Adina Lawson, and Terry Hubler. The show is directed by Richard Marlow and choreographed by Se Layne. Musical direction is by Steven Smith, including a 5-piece musical band; costume design is by Derik Shopinski and Lighting and Set Design is by JW Layne.

Grand Hotel runs for two weekends April 5-14. Show times are 7 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $32-$36. Student tickets are available for $15 with a valid ID and purchased at the Box Office.

The regional repertory theater company operates primarily with volunteers and produces about 13 Broadway musicals and classic plays each year, plus offers a children's theatre camp and production. The theatre opened its doors in 1997 when Dr. William "Bill" Layne and his family renovated the historic Frances S. Stevens School located at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Alejo Road in Palm Springs, Calif.
