Desert Ensemble Theatre has announced its upcoming production of Beyond Therapy, the uproarious comedy by Christopher Durang. This sharp-witted and absurdly funny play will run April 18–21 and 25-28 at The Palm Springs Cultural Center.

Beyond Therapy follows the misadventures of Bruce and Prudence, two neurotic New Yorkers navigating the perils of modern romance through the lens of eccentric therapists, misguided dating advice, and their own unpredictable emotions. Packed with rapid-fire dialogue, quirky characters, and Durang's signature satirical wit, this production promises an evening of laughter and outrageous surprises.

Christopher Durang's comedy remains as fresh and relevant as ever, and he is celebrated for his use of dark humor while finding moments of genuine emotion even in the most absurd and outrageous situations,” says Jerome Elliott Moskowitz, DET's Artistic Director and the director of the production. “We can't wait for audiences to experience the hilarity and heart of Beyond Therapy as the final production of our season of iconic plays.”

Desert Ensemble Theatre, known for its bold and engaging productions, continues its commitment to bringing compelling theatre to the community. This production of Beyond Therapy showcases a talented cast and creative team dedicated to delivering an unforgettable experience. The celebrated cast includes Melanie Blue, Isaac-Gaeta Tollette, J. Clare Merritt, Raul Valenzuela, and Anthony Nannini, joined by David Flores, a talented acting intern from Rancho Mirage High School. The award-winning Production Team includes Thomas L. Valach (set), Jason Smith and David Atkisson (lighting), Andrew M. Edwards (sound), Kudra Wagner (costumes), and Tessa Gregory-Walker (props). Sierra Barrick, a graduate of DET's Technical Theatre Internship Program, is the company's Resident Stage Manager.

Christopher Durang (1949–2024) was a prolific playwright whose work has  been seen on and off- Broadway, around the country and abroad.  He was a master of comedy – satire, dark comedy, parody or outright absurdist. He earned a B.A. in English from Harvard College, and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Yale School of Drama. His play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2013.
