A father and son are locked in conflict. A family teetering between hope and despair. On the Edge is an unflinching political family drama that explores the weight of expectation, the wounds of war, and the devastating cost of silence. Set in contemporary Israel, the play focuses on Tuvia, the aging owner of a respected publishing house, who is determined to release an anthology of short stories about the 2023 Gaza War. His vision is a collection that invites painful but necessary soul-searching from soldiers and civilians alike.
On the Edge was previously produced at Jaffa Theatre in Israel, where Lerner’s work has long been recognized for blending intimate family stories with bold political inquiry. Bringing this play to Oklahoma City continues Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma’s commitment to staging contemporary Jewish works that speak directly to the challenges of our time, from intergenerational divides to the impact of war and media on public memory.
The cast features Rob May, Kris Schinske-Wolfe, and Jimmy Pike. Roberta Sloan directs, with Eleanor Harris serving as assistant director and Jayvion Frazier as stage manager.
Jewish Theatre of Oklahoma’s mission is to explore the rich social, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the Jewish people through theater-going experiences, illuminating Jewish themes and giving voice to Jewish playwrights and ideas. Through productions and post-show discussions, the company seeks to strengthen the Jewish community, deepen ties with the broader multicultural community, and, in some small way, help stem the rising tide of antisemitism through entertainment, dialogue, and education.
