Nuevo Tango Arts presents PIAZZOLLA100: THE NEW YORK TANGO FESTIVAL

Opening Night Concert with Cuartetango & Guests at the DiMenna Center - THURSDAY JUNE 12, 7 PM 

Leonardo Suarez Paz, Artistic Director of Nuevo Tango Arts leads his company to the forefront of 21st century Nuevo Tango, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine-born and New York raised revolutionary composer who created new tango.  

PIAZZOLLA100 Festival's opening night is a unique multidisciplinary program by Leonardo Suarez-Paz, a “virtuoso extraordinaire on the violin” (Wynton Marsalis), who brings forth a new artistic vision with 2xLatin Grammy nominated Cuartetango, an “ingenious musical concept,” (The Day, CT) -   a classical string quartet that “personifies and embodies the authentic spirit of Tango” (Latin Grammy). Cuartetango will perform with GRAMMY-winning bandoneonist Rodolfo Zanetti  a range of instrumental, vocal and dance repertoire from Gardel and Le Pera to Piazzolla. This special evening concludes with "The Rites of Love," a new string quartet composition with poetry by L. Suarez-Paz, which celebrates the freedom of expression. Featured artists include: Leonardo Suarez-Paz (violin/voice/dance), Francisco Salazar (violin), Jon Weber (viola), Danny Miller (cello), Rodolfo Zanetti (bandoneon), Olga Suarez-Paz (dance/poetry).


Post-Concert wine reception celebrates and supports the launch of Nuevo Tango Arts and the 1st Edition of the multidisciplinary celebration of culture- PIAZZOLLA100: The New York Tango Festival. Leonardo Suarez-Paz
violinist, vocalist, dancer
Leonardo Suarez-Paz is an Argentine-born musician & 2xLatin GRAMMY award nominated musician & composer who was mentored by Astor Piazzolla. He was a violin soloist for Horacio Salgan, Mariano Mores, Atilio Stampone & Broadways's Forever Tango & Tango Argentino and a dancer and violinist in The Mariano Mores Show, Tangox2 & Perfumes de Tango. He is the founder of Cuartetango string quartet and the artistic director of Nuevo Tango Arts & PIAZZOLLA100.
Francisco Salazar
violinist
Violinist Francisco Salazar is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he obtained his BM and MM degrees, member of the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, which he joined at age 14, and current member of the NJ Symphony and the Harrisburg Symphony, Francisco worked with conductors Pierre Boulez, Kurt Mazur, Seiji Ozawa and Stanislav Skrowaczewski. He is a member of the 2xLatin Grammy nominated Cuartetango string quartet.
Jon Weber
violist
Violist Jon Weber has been featured in Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and with members of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Northeast Pennsylvania Chamber Music Society, the Harrisburg Symphony, Reading Symphony, Hudson Valley Philharmonic. Professor of violin and chamber music at Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College (CUNY). He is a member of the 2xLatin Grammy nominated Cuartetango string quartet.
Danny Miller
Cellist
Cellist Danny Miller was a principal cellist of Orquesta del Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Italy and is a principal of New York Pops, Greenwich Symphony Orchestra and Greenwich Chamber Players, American Ballet Theater, Glimmerglass Opera and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He is a Grammy winning member of the Broadway's Wicked orchestra and a member of the 2xLatin Grammy nominated Cuartetango string quartet.
Rodolfo Zanetti
Bandoneonist
Rodolfo Zanetti is an Argentine-born Latin GRAMMY Award winning musician & educator featured with New York City Opera, at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, Lisner Auditorium of George Washington University and the Embassy of Argentina.
Olga Suarez-Paz
dancer, actor
Olga Suarez-Paz is a tango dancer, choreographer and actor. She co-directs the PIAZZOLLA100 Festival and Nuevo Tango Ballet. Olga has bee featured at Centro Cultural Kirchner in Buenos Aires, Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art and National Museum of Dance and as a special tango guest with Savion Glover, Greenwich Symphony. She was a Dean's Artist-In-Residence at NYU and is a recipient of NYCSA, LMCC & Dance/NYC Awards.
