New York, NY— Producer and Actor Rebecca Karpovsky comes to the stage with the world premiere of her one woman show LA FIN: The Last Hour of Sarah Bernhardt’s Life, a dark comedy about the great “French Dier” facing a terrible creative block when it comes time to prepare for her actual ultimate death. It plays June 13th at Edwin Booth’s mansion, The Players on 16 S Gramercy. Karpovsky produced and co-wrote the award winning feature film Pinsky and she is a member of the Lost & Found project, “NYC’s newest immersive and innovative theatre troupe” (MTV News).

Staged in a location where Sarah Bernhardt actually visited back in 1911 and the tone Karpovsky sets by interacting with the audience, gives it an immersive feel. At first Sarah was not actually even allowed at The Players because it was a “boys only” club. But then several members signed a petition, making her the first woman to enter. Now that original petition still hangs at The Players Grill downstairs with her photo above it.

“It often happened to me as a child that I wanted to kill myself to annoy other people.” -Sarah Bernhardt

In this original dark comedy solo performance Sarah Bernhardt, the "great" French actress, realizes she has just one hour of her life left. She must now find the ultimate theatrical death. In order to find it, she begins to dramatically and humorously reenact the details of her stage deaths and her many true-life- attention-seeking-«attempted»-suicides, from her childhood charades to garner her mother’s attention to the longest gaudy detailed dying sequences in performance one could ever imagine. Through all her "deaths," she shows her love of life.ve As the performance waivers between the surreal and the historical fact, one can find a little window into the essence of the Divine Sarah. The great actress. The great PR agent. The great “French Dier.” The great freak-type that has ceased to exist in our icons today. We need her back.

Business casual attire required to enter The Players. Evening or costume (1870s-1910) attire encouraged!

La Fin is produced, created and performed by Rebecca Karpovsky (Pinsky, Paint), directed by Gera Sandler (Jellyfish, Unorthodox, A Tale of Love and Darkness), co-produced by French director/writer Adrien Le Ray (Les Franglaises), movement style direction by Janice Orlandi (The Other Mozart, Bette Davis Ain’t For Sissies), costume design by Irina Kruzhilina (Rivers of Light- Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, Petrushka), Production design by Sarah leriche and Stage manager Julia Parnas.

June 13th is the premiere and the only showing at The Players at 16 S Gramercy at 8PM. Running time is 75 minutes. For tickets, which are $35, visit https://bit.ly/2ZCmGKH or the FB Event page: https://bit.ly/2VZTjD4. Website: thesarahbernhardtproject.com.
