York Theatre Hosts NEO of the Future

On Monday, March 4th, The York Theatre Company in New York City held its 2019 NEO13: A Concert Celebration. The one-night only musical theatre concert series founded in 2003 and stands for "New, Emerging, Outstanding," showcased the work of several emerging writers.

Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley of the underwear-clad comedy duo The Skivvies, hosted the evening, fully clothed, throwing in a few of their jokes while introducing the writers to the stage.

This year's line-up included the work from Amanda D'Archangelis and Sami Horneff, Janine McGuire and Arri Lawton Simon, Julian Hornik, Madeline Myers, and two college students Sarah Kaufman and Caleb Smith. Each of the writers presented around three songs from a musical or musicals they are working on, which were performed by Broadway's own stars, such as Ali Ewoldt (The Phantom of the Opera) and Sharone Sayegh (The Band's Visit) to name a few.

The evening was filled with inspiration found within arising talent in theatre, and was solidified with a standing ovation by encouraging crowd members. Immediately following the show, the audience was treated to wine, bubbles, and an sundae bar as they mingled with the writers.
