TP&co Premieres A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Tonight
The Theatre Project announces the creation of their new, resident Acting Company, TP&co. With a focus on bold interpretations of classic theatre, TP&co features a founding company of eleven performers. TP&co's inaugural production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will premiere tonight, September 20th at The Players Theatre.
TP&co is a new addition to The Theatre Project, fulfilling the company's goal to enhance programming in the upcoming year. "We had become so focused on development, that we began to loose sight of The Theatre Project's original mission," said Artistic Director, Christian Amato. "TP&co fulfills our commitment towards remaining artist-driven. It will also allow us to present classic theatre along side our new-play development."
TP&co will present contemporary and devised productions of classic theatre in conjunction with The Theatre Project, who will continue to present world premieres of newly-developed plays. Productions will be developed as a collaborative effort, with members of TP&co, as a way to curate devised adaptations of the plays that are produced. TP&co members will also be incorporated into The Theatre Project's productions as well. TP&co, like The Theatre Project, will be a resident company of the historic Off-Broadway venue, The Players Theatre, in the heart of Greenwich Village.
The founding company features Megan Abel, Jonathan Bethea, Bridget Dunnigan, Eric Fletcher, ClaRon Hayden, Brianna Hurley, Charlotte Pines, Domenic Sellers, Stefanie Smith, Jaime Swartz, & Tyler Nye. On the importance of TP&co's mission, company member Nye states "Off-Broadway offers a unique opportunity for actors and audiences to appreciate the longstanding tradition of the play and to explore a fresh, young, modern concept."
