The Shelter Presents THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS at FringeNYC, Beg. Tonight

By:

The Shelter - an ensemble of theatrical artists - begins its fifth season with THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS by Ginger Kearns as part of the 17th annual New York International Fringe Festival. THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS, which plunges the audience between two ex-lovers as they use art to relive and explore their tragic love affair, will be performed at Fringe Venue #2: CSV Flamboyan (107 Suffolk Street, btw Rivington and Delancey) in Manhattan. Nicole Rosner will direct. The show will play tonight, August 9 at 7:00pm; Saturday, August 10 at 9:30pm; Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00pm; Saturday, August 17 at 5:00pm; Sunday, August 18 at 12 noon.

Starting at the moment two star-crossed ex-lovers meet, THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS follows Narrator and Poet as they use art, from visual to musical and even multimedia, to relive their relationship in the past and present - and explore its inevitable future. The journey is an absurdly funny, unexpectedly charmingbattle of inspiration, lust and identity.

The cast of THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS will feature Ginger Kearns (SLEEP NO MORE) and Michael Kingsbaker (ON AN AVERAGE DAY, 2012 Henry Award Nominee). Kearns and Kingsbaker, both reprise their roles from the world premiere, which was produced as part of THE SHELTER PRESENTS: ART. Ethan Kanfer of Show Business Weekly wrote that Kearns "has good comic instincts and shares a potent erotic chemistry with her costar Michael Kingsbaker."

The Shelter (www.theshelternyc.org) - under the guidance of Co-Artistic Directors Meghan E. Jones and Michael Kingsbaker and Executive Director Dave Lankford - is a family of artists creating original theatre for the New York stage. All productions are written, directed, acted and designed by its members and arecollaboratively developed through the company's weekly Shelter Sunday workshop. The heartbeat of The Shelter, Shelter Sunday provides a safe haven where writers, directors, and actors challenge themselves to refine their respective crafts through hard work, creative exercise, experimentation and artistic discourse.

Through its productions, The Shelter strives to connect with patrons seeking innovative, independently produced theatre with a focus on character-driven storytelling. Past productions include: LILY & KOSMO LIVE (2013), GHOST LIGHT (2013), SOARWARD HOLIDAY PARTY (2012), THE SHELTER PRESENTS: ART (2012), FAIRY TALE (2011), NIGHT WINDOWS (2011), F***ING CHRISTMAS (2010), MOTEL (2010) and 3:56 AM (2009).

Performances of THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT ARTISTS will run Friday, August 9 at 7:00pm; Saturday, August 10 at 9:30pm; Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00pm; Saturday, August 17 at 5:00pm; and Sunday, August 18 at 12noon at Fringe Venue #2: CSV Flamboyan (107 Suffolk Street, btw Rivington and Delancey).
