The Queens Players Presents THREE SISTERS, Opens 3/9

By:

The Queens Players will be presenting Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov opening on March 9th Directed by Alberto Bonilla who last directed Raft of The Medusa and The Servant To Two Masters at The Secret. Coming off his widely successful North of Providence and Dolores, which Martin Denton called, "raw, with wrenching ambition... Bonilla's production of both pieces is exemplary". Alberto's Three Sisters explores the fear of being forgotten and the hope of the future. Bonilla says, "What draws me so close to these characters is their fallible natures. The fact that Chekhov has written such vulnerable and hopeful, yet flawed people against a background of change. We see ourselves, or parts of ourselves, in every one of them and rise and fall with their hopes and dreams. Like a family portrait deteriorating before our eyes, we long for what we had and pray for a better tomorrow."

Three Sisters by Russian author and playwright Anton Chekhov, perhaps partially inspired by the situation of the three Brontë sisters, but most probably by the three Zimmermann sisters in Perm. It was written in 1900 and first produced in 1901.

A year after the death of their father, an army officer, the Moscow-bred sisters Prosorov--Olga, Masha and Irina--are finding life drab and increasingly hopeless in a Russian provincial town. Only the proximity of a nearby artillery post and the company of its officers make their existence bearable.
