The Journey Theatre Project to Present MONOLOGUES FROM THE FRONTLINES: NEW PLAYS FROM UKRAINE

The Journey Theatre Project is bringing the words and experiences of four Ukrainian playwrights to NYC with Monologues from the Frontlines: New Plays from Ukraine, a staged reading to benefit those displaced by the war. On Saturday, April 23 at 4:00pm at Greenwich House Music School (46 Barrow Street), the performance will give a voice to Ukrainian theater artists that have been displaced, are in hiding, and are fighting for their home.

100% of the proceeds from ticket sales of Monologues from the Frontlines will be donated to Cash for Refugees (@cashforrefugees), an organization that provides direct cash payments to Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war.

Monologues from the Frontlines: New Plays from Ukraine will feature excerpts from:

"Bad Roads" by Natalya Vorozhbyt (translated by Sasha Dugdale)

"Peace and Tranquility" by Andrii Bondarenko (translated by John Farndon)

"Our Children" by Natalia Blok (translated by John Freedman and Natalia Bratus)

"A Dictionary of Emotions in a Time of War" by Elena Astaseva (translated by John Freedman)

The reading will be directed by Dmitry Troyanovsky, and will feature performances by Mickey Solis, Zuzanna Szadkowski, Leah Loftin, Sofiya Akilova and Nicole Kontolefa. Troyanovsky is an international Ukrainian-American theater director who moved to the US as a refugee in the 1980s-with family still in Ukraine, his interest in this project is personal. All five performers have a history of theater performance and training in Russia, and are emphatically uniting in support of Ukraine.

Monologues from the Frontlines is part of The Worldwide Ukrainian Play Readings Project, initiated by theater critic and translator John Freedman, which will raise funds and awareness of the human toll of the war on Ukraine. The performance will shed light on the current conflict, the history of the country, as well as the personal experience of living through the early weeks of the invasion.

This is an in-person event. The Recital Hall at Greenwich House Music School is on the second floor. Unfortunately, it is not ADA accessible at this time. Proof of vaccination and masks will be required.
